Every band was really good EXCEPT for Killswitch. After three songs my friend and I sat down, closed our eyes, and BOTH fell asleep! No joke! We woke up as they were coming off the stage. I thought that they were just two guitars full of crap noise with a hardcore singer screaming at the crowd, still angry because his Mom took away his Playstation years ago :Spin: :Spin: .
I will take your word for it that Killswitch is more popular in the U.S., as I'm not an expert on the matter, but I would have sworn it was In Flames.

I hate metalcore. The reason anyone would think any metalcore band is arguably "better" than any specific Gothenburg band is because they ripped off that Gothenburg band. Rose of Sharyn has some rip off riffs from Whoracle. Some of the melodic parts in the 2nd riff of that song remind me of the 2nd half of the main riff in Food for the Gods. Fuck metalcore. Fuck this US "metal" scene. Fuck "SiC!1" breakdowns, fuck trendy emo haircuts, girl pants and metrosexual postures, fuck spin kicks and "hardcore dancing." It isn't the individuals in the bands I despise, I respect them for playing music they love. I despise the scenters, the new "metalheads," and any bands copying off swedish metal or other metalcore bands jumping on the bandwagon.

BUT ALSO REALIZE THAT EVERYTHING IN METAL WAS DONE IN THE THRASH MOVEMENT OF THE EARLY 80s AND THAT MOST OF WHAT WE HEAR TODAY IS NOT ALL THAT PROGRESSED ITS BASICALLY RECYCLED FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE. NO BAND KNOW DAYS HAS A REAL DISTINCT SOUND THATS NEVER BEEN DONE OR TRIED BEFORE. YOU JUST GOT TO TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT IS. METAL AND ENJOY IT. How many of you are so goddamn dependent on Sweden that ya cant wake up? This whole "Gothenburg" thing has been going on for awhile now has it not? Everyone has head everything from there and people are trying to emulate it. How long did the NWOBHM last? Get a grip and find some new tunes.

WELL I THINK THE AMERICAN DEATH SCENE SUCKS BECAUSE IM NOT A CANNIBAL or SUFFOCATION OR MORBID ANGEL FAN. THe SWEDISH DEATH VOX JUST REALLY STICK TO ME. BESIDES THAT I LISTEN TO POWER METAL HAHA YEAH LAUGH ALL YOU WANT BUT REALLY BESIDES THE METALCORE AND SWEDISH SCENE I CANT FIND ANY VOCALS I LIKE. I dont even like the stuff from shadows fall a whole lot. Its not about the music so much is the vocals Im really picky about vocals and I think there are alot of other people who like them too and thats why the swedish scene is mentioned so much.

Vocals aside, The American bands you mentioned play a very different style of "Death Metal" than the Swedes. Less of a melodic sound with more emphasis on being brutal. I do agree that there is a great difference between the cookie monster vocals of most of these brutal bands and the screams of In Flames/Dark Tranqulty/At the Gates, etc. I think the first wave of Death vocals from Possessed, Death and Obituary(how can you beat Tardy?!) were the best though. Check them out if you haven't already.

Of course Brutal American Death metal and Melodic/Gothenburg Swedish metal have different vocals styles.
