The Darkness....

I tend to lean towards the more "metal," side of metal, but am willing to come out of the closet here and admit I liked (and own) the first Darkness LP. The songs were good, the singing didn't bother me (a common complaint) and I dug the hell out of the tongue in cheek is-it-really-a-joke-or-isn't-it vibe.

That stated, while I wasn't over impressed with the first song/video from the new one, I will pick it up (I didn't realize it was out yet). It's pretty much at the bottom of my CD priority list though, so I'll wait for an used copy. I'd be interested in hearing opinions on it too.

The thing about them I like the most (outside of the really pretty darn good songs) is that real edgy strange comedy about it. I mean, it's too good to be a put on, but it's just goofy enough to be one. They are the Andy Kauffman of rock, and that suits me fine in the strangest way.

You bastard! :D You're making me like them and I really don't want to. My youngest stepson bought the first one for me for Christmas. I just could not get by the vocals no matter how I tried. They do have an old school flavor about them.

Off all the "alternative" stuff they throw at us on music stations, The Darkness stands out, they are kinda special, more leaning towards oldschool metal. But as a lot of people, i find it hard to get into the vocals, they annoy me most of the time....

I don't know who the fuck ya'll are talking about..... and I have to listen to the radio at work on occasion to keep my co-workers from bitching all the time about my metal music.

I'm with ElecWiz, the vocals don't really bother me. They make me laugh mostly, because he is so over the top. And the best part is, the singer is so unintelligible that they don't have to bleep the choruses when they play them on tv or radio (Get your hands off of my woman, mother fucker!).

I really liked that first Darkness album, but it did wear thin for me quickly. I'd say by about the tenth listen, I was getting bored. It's pure ear candy. Like gum, it's sweet for awhile, but after that it's like chewing a cud. I don't have any intentions of buying the second one, but I might think about it if I found it used somewhere. I'm also interested in reviews/opinions of it...I doubt they can match the song quality they produced on the first one.

This pretty much sums up my view. Anyway, I should have said in my post that 10 listens was about all I got out of it too. Only that I didn't even expect that much, but after listening to it on a listening station at Tower I found myself saying, "Well, this is a lot more OK than I expected it to be...."

I thought it was about Darkness the thrash band . I can't stand the voice of the Brit dude sorry

I heard a bit - his falsetto's are higher on this record - almost 'more of a' novelty thing, but this time they actually work in a Queen-style way (what they seemed to be aiming for on the first one).

I own the first record, but I don't think I'll buy this one until it's used (as everyone else is saying) or cheaper. The title track rips off the riff from I Believe in a Thing Called Love which annoys me - so I can't listen to it much. That being said, it's not a bad song, just not up to the quality of the first record. The film clip, however, is pure genius... the devil snorting up some Darkness = :headbang:
