are all the cool names allready taken or is this a special trend I don't understand?

Actually I'm pretty sure the band were around before the film - and it's a phrase I'd heard way before too. I think in the band's case, if there's any actual reason for picking it, it'll be a jab at consumerist culture. If they're anything like my bands though, it'll just be the first thing that all the members agreed on - hence my current band being named after a goddamn jellyfish.

+1, it's a social commentary against consumerism at least according to interviews and the like. Sort of a statement about how people are weak and sheepish and put too much value in trends and wealth.

alot of it has to do with the fanbase the band appeals to. TDWP name appeals perfectly to their 13-17 year old girl fanbase(which they have a TON of), and Carnage or Bloodbath names appeal to their older metal dude crowd.

it's usually pretty smart to name your band according to your target fanbase(i mean think about if Cradle of Filth had named themselves Neon Grasshopper....)

Also, I think you guys missed the part where that name comes from a book that came out several years ago (way before the band). The movie was based off the book. IMO, if TDWP actually tried to tie their own thoughts on materialism and consumerism into the name, they missed the mark, but I digress. I doubt any group of dudes would have ever come up with that name prior to the book coming out, despite their claims to the contrary.
