I fucking love this band, Im amazed at what these guys made. This is a band I would very much like to see Opeth cover. I posted some examples below so check it out and pick up some albums.:kickass:

Btw the OP would like Opeth to cover some of their songs... Which song do you think could be the best choice? I'll post my opinion after some pondering.

one of my fave bands of course..."waiting for the sun" and "l.a. woman" being my fave albums from them. cant really choose, though.

great artistic lyrics, strong, pure melodies and excellent musicianship. all the members are pioneers at their instruments.

they definitely have some great tunes. I really like Soul Kitchen for some reason. Great organ on that song.

i worship the doors
strange days is my favorite album, but i love them all....

opeth covering crystal ship would be orgasmic... or probably when the music's over, that would be a good choice as well

for the first album...
The crystal ship would be very cool
end of the night
The end
Whiskey Bar
Light my fire

There are many more, the doors wrote many cool songs that were different in style and some had a darker side. Jim(Vocalist) had his demons portrayed through his lyrics, they improvised in lots of songs, after all they were a garage band. I recently bought all their albums except WFTS and LAW, but I plan on getting collecting the whole discography. I have already discovered many cool obscure songs that would be cool covers for Opeth.

Imo, the Doors got away form what they did best with "Soft Parade" and that's the blues. A welcome return was "Morrison Hotel" to their roots and blues-based sound. Every time I listen to some songs on the SP, expecially "Touch Me." I'm reminded of sitting in a Las Vegas lounge. You talk about a heavy-cheese factor. That song was a bump in the road. Read some interviews with Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore.

I like the Amorphis cover of 'light my fire'

My pick for Opeth would be 'The End'. Atonement also had some eastern influences, so to me it seems like something they could easily pull off. Mikael could do clean vox for most then hit us w/some DM at the climax.

Getting back to the topic. Sure the rest of the band had some talent, but without JM they wouldn't still be a topic of discussion.
