Has anyone been watching this show? I've followed it since the first episode and I'm loving it! People keep on saying it's a mix between Lost and 24. I've never watched a single episode of Lost, but saw the first two 24 seasons and really dug them!

Any thoughts on this show? It keeps on getting better and better by the episode!

I've seen up to the 5th or 6th. It's okay. Here's what I wrote elsewhere:

"I've watched all the episodes, but I'm not sure if I'm hooked. Unlike other serial shows which I have watched religiously (meaning occasionally, when I feel like it, but still always wanting to continue to see it), The Event is not getting me involved on any emotional level. Part of this is due to the poor decision to overuse a fragmented timeline. It breaks up the flow, and is just an excuse for poor writing. It's a way of attempting to introduce drama, suspense, and more, without it actually being caused by the story. Thus, it's a trick that wears thin and would be like listening to a song that kept skipping around. Sure you might want to hear it, but you never can get fully into it. It's disjointed and constantly has the effect of making me realize that I'm just watching a show, thus not achieving the immersion that I watch these things for. I think that Flashback suffered from this as well, but at least there, it was a part of the story.

Plus, there aren't yet any characters I care about. It's more about watching what unfolds, trying to figure out why people are doing what they are doing, without caring what happens to any individual character. Perhaps I should care about Ritter's character, but while I think he's a good guy and worth caring about, I think it's the jumping around that makes him less real.

I'll keep watching for a while just to see what happens, but if I'm not fully hooked in another 5 episodes I think I can give up and move on to something else."

I'm skipping this show completely, I'm going to assume NBC is going to pull another Heroes on us. Only watched the first episode of 24 and never watched an episode of Lost. Too much drama for me. I stick with the Japanese for dramas - they average 11 episodes.

Interesting. You watched the first two seasons of 24 and then stopped? How come may I ask? For years it was the only network show I gave the light of day. I actually have never heard of this show, but it's probably too late to start now. I may check it out when it comes on DVD though.

Simply because of time. I loved the first two seasons, but I haven't had the time to keep watching them, mostly because of the wedding. Now I may actually have the time to get back to it again. I also didn't want to buy the third season because again, because of the wedding, the priorities of where the money was going (we paid for the entire thing ourselves) were just elsewhere. I'll get back to it though.

Wow, it has been the most publicized show on NBC this season. If you dug 24, I don't see how you wouldn't like this show. If you have On Demand, you can catch it there (or you can go to the The Event website and watch full episodes as well).

Give it a try. I have a feeling you'll dig it. =)

Try renting 24, dude. When you watch the DVDs as I have on a couple of the seasons (due to taping getting screwed up) it's incredibly addictive.

Really, it isn't surprising at all for me not to know of any show to be perfectly honest. Ever since I was a Junior in highschool I just gave up watching most TV because it was derivative of each other. There was the occasional show like 24 or whatever, but usually I don't watch tv with the exception of basketball and for when I'm eating dinner. I do watch a lot of the HBO and Showtime stuff, but that's because my dad turns me onto them and tapes them for me since I don't have said channels.

I may try to see if Hulu has it though. Unfortunatley, I don't have on demand.

Well, as I had said in a past thread, I learned the bad way about how addictive 24 can really be.

(By the way Simon, the next paragraph is not exactly directed towards you since I actually believe your comment to be true - however it did make me wonder one thing and I was pondering over it for a little bit, therefore...)

I actually find it interesting that there are so many people that claim that they don't like watching TV because it's derivative and doesn't bring anything new to the table. I also find it extremely interesting when it's people from our community (every now and then someone will say that they don't watch TV because of that reason), when a lot of the bands discussed (and really loved) aren't really doing anything groundbreaking either. Is it different for music, I wonder? Hypocrisy? Or a simple "I wanna sound like I'm cool" type thing?

All you have to do is find the Pilot episode. The rest is here:

That is an excellent question. I think it's just the difference in the mediums. In TV, people are looking for stories whereas people interested in music want something for certain moods, for example to feel better. Also, to be impressed by musicianship in some cases. Most importantly though, I think it has to do with people wanting there to be something playing instead of dead air. Because the thing is that with music, you can usually be doing something else while it's playing in the background, whereas TV you have to just focus on that one thing. At the end of the day though, much like all other art forms it comes down to the fact that we're in 2010 and basically everything that could be done, has been done. However, people like watching or hearing new things even if it is just repackaging of something that has been done before.

Another reason why I don't watch much TV personally is just because for the most part I would rather watch a good film than a TV show I feel so-so about week after week. There are some good shows on TV but it's just not that common anymore. Plus, I'm constantly doing things whether it's working on a film project, educating myself, housework, etc. that I just don't have the time to follow something week after week. I feel though that Showtime and HBO shows pretty much have a deadlock on the original and/or interesting that the network and most cable shows don't. I loved 24, I also am consistently watching Dexter and recently, Boardwalk Empire. Beyond that, there isn't much that interests me and I personally find more enjoyment out of films.

I really like the show, been watching every week, except this week because of some special. Hawaii 5-0 rounds a good Monday of TV, Tues it is NCIS, and then off to Discovery Channel, DIY, Food Network.

I don't really care about any character on the show. Something that seems to be plaguing all these shows trying to fill the void left from Lost. At least it isn't insulting my intelligence by doing the "IN CASE YOU FORGOT WHAT I SAW IN THE FUTURE, HERE IS THE SAME SCENE EVERY EPISODE AND OFTEN SEVERAL TIMES EACH EPISODE" plague of Flashforward. We're still watching but if there was something else that conflicted in that time spot, I'd probably watch that instead. Too bad Lonestar got canned on Fox.

On the other hand, Fringe this season..... FFFFFFffffffffff. So good.
