This was done years ago, i think in the 70s. It was a psyche experiment in which two groups of people were split into "guards" and "prisoners." It was supposed to be a study of the effects of authority on morality. I cant remember what it was called, but it was very interesting. The "guards" did indeed lose their moral values and wanted to hurt the "prisoners." Look it up.

And as this freewill dude points out, the actual experiment has been performed several times, always with disastrous (but intended) results.
