the FBI closes Megaupload

True about the cordiality, my bad there haha.

Look at Metallica's Black Album here.

Now explain to me why a CD is $3.50 and an inferior quality mp3 download is $8.50. Shipping? Tax? And what about those cool gray and white pictures of Jaymes and Lars and co (probably the last cool pics ever taken of them btw)? And the lyrics? How come I don't get those?

And since we're speaking about "artists", what about the artist that created the album cover? We're not going to pay him anymore? So the musicians should get paid but the album cover artists shouldn't?

I dunno, sounds like a bunch of horseshit to me. 1s and 0s. That's all music is these days. You can argue all you want, but in the end it is 1s and 0s. No way out of that.

Making money off of your music right now is akin to building a sandcastle on a beach.

Where else would you build a sandcastle? I don't get the metaphor....

Not arguing that music isn't 1's and 0's. It is. Sometimes it is more appropriate. I'm arguing that those 1's and 0's are still valuable, because of the time and effort that someone has put into creating them. If you don't understand the distinction, there in lies the problem.

Who said anything about not paying the cover designer? Who said anything about releasing digital music without covers, photos, blurbs, production info... etc... ?? You're making a crass assumption, and it makes you look like a tithead.

And ps... Death Cult Armageddon is on my shelf, as is every 65 Days Of Static album, every Boris and Mono album, every Tool record, every ISIS record, and a whole load of stuff from Orbital to Prodigy, blah blah blah... I've got tons of CD's. I've also bought tons of mp3's and lossless formats.

The music is paramount for me.

Genius, you are seriously delusional or completely misunderstand how the industry works, or just are not thinking at all when you type.

By your same logic, all electronic banking information is 1's and 0's - why can't I get a loan with negative interest rate on a 4 million dollar house? It's all immaterial, so it's worthless, right?

^I won't deny that I am a bit delusional, but I don't think that devalues my points.

True but the electronic banking industry isn't suing people for illegal downloading.

I'm saying instead of a real castle. Shitty metaphor. My bad there.

^ excellent.

I think artists normally get payed like soundguys, so how many CD's are sold, or what the price of the CD is doesn't have a lot to do with them.
I'm not really sure what you mean by this. Most deals are structured such that the artist gets a percentage of MSRP of the disks sold. How many CD's are sold matters A LOT. What individual retailers sell them for is generally of little to no consequence. Of course you have to recoup whatever advance you receive before you start getting royalty checks.
