A little more concrete news, I’m guessing it’s a cover rather than the third album’s lead single. Here’s to hoping we know a bit more either way, and here’s to hoping it’s as good as we’re expecting.

So it's a cover of the song If You Were Here by a band from Sweden called Kent. It's pretty good too. I maintain this, along with How the Gods Kill would've been much better suited for Cemetery Skyline though.

I guess they are just having fun, which has pretty much been their mission statement since forming. I wish they'd think a bit more outside the box though. The best metal covers are ones of random bands with totally different styles. In Flames with Everything Counts, Strong & Smart and World of Promises, for example. All so different to the originals that they stand on their own as great metal tracks, not just covers.

I didn’t even realize today’s the 20th, just listened to the song now.

Honestly, even moreso than just the stylings fitting with Cemetery Skyline, there’s nothing really here that’s interesting nor feels like THE making it their own. It’s competently performed and produced, there’s nothing bad, but there’s nothing that’ll make me come back to this. At least if it was in Swedish like the original, that’d be something interesting about it. I still really like their cover of How the Gods Kill, but this just feels like something I’ll forget in a couple hours. Feels so unlike THE to go on fucking autopilot like this, man.

I think as long as we get something either interesting or stylized/THE-sounding (not even necessarily melodeath), or hopefully both, I’ll be happy with whatever we get. An old IF, DT, or even Iron Maiden song would be super interesting, but yeah, I doubt we’d get any of those covered.

Even though it’s not a massive departure from the original, I really like how they went about covering How the Gods Kill. It’s flawed for sure, but it feels creative/distinct from their usual stuff, has a wonderful guitar sound and atmosphere, and it’s just a cool pick in general. The most interesting thing I can say about the If You Were Here cover is that they took an energetic song and made it moody and gothic— That’s rather different from the original, which is something I like, but it feels like that’s as far as the cover goes. I’m hoping the rest of the covers feel like they ended up having more time in the oven, I guess.

Also, apparently Kent remade the song a year after in 1998 to have English lyrics instead of Swedish. It’s a small detail, but it should be mentioned.

I Wanna Be Somebody is a WASP cover and it sounds more like THE. It has growls and whatnot. I'm assuming it comes out on Friday because I found it for download.

I don’t know why, but it’s genuinely surprising that it’s just five songs. I was expecting like seven or eight.

I really hope that they don’t put out another single on Friday or just any day before the album’s release. I’m not the biggest fan of President, but as someone who wanted to feel the mystique of their music a bit (It’s a dark pop EP, let’s be real, that shit is not metalcore), releasing 4/6 tracks before the EP’s come out proper fucking ruined that for me. THE’s making a covers EP, sure, but I’d like to listen to it front to back, and if I already know 3/5 tracks, then that experience is fucked. I don’t know, it sounds stupid, but I’d really like for the label to have some restraint. Especially if it does release in November, please just release the WASP cover as a single on the EP’s release date.

I likely won't pay any attention to this as I have very low interest in cover albums unless it is between radically different genres - but if they had fun making it then good for them, I guess.

In terms of the site running like ass, it's been like this for me since there was that week-long outage a while back. Not sure if they're just using a cheap server these days or whatever caused that initial outage never got fully resolved.

This site’s been fucked for me for a few months now. Admittedly, I’ve been mainly using it on mobile, but especially when I made the acoustic compilation it took around a week before I could send it here because the site just wouldn’t load. There was only one other instance before that where it was that fucked up for me, but I don’t remember when or what was going on in that time. For the most part, it just takes a long time to load, but I’ll very happily take that. I’ve only recently gotten used to good internet as someone who grew up with ratfucked internet anyways, so it’s not exactly unfamiliar to me.

Random tangent, has Ethernet always been as good as it is? I only had mine put in like half a year ago for my computer, and I wish I did that so much sooner. It’s genuinely life changing to not have to deal with multiple second to minute delays on everything, even google searches.

I like covers as bonus tracks, or as a track on an EP. Also can be cool if it's an album where many different bands are covering songs from a popular band like Metallica or Maiden. Amaranthe's version of Powerwolf's Army of the Night is better than the original, imo.

An entire album of one band doing covers of other bands though? Meh.
