The Immortal Technique Thread

It's a good album, but it doesn't beat Revolutionary 1 & 2. The work on the beats and the songs themselves was better this time around, but I don't think the lyrics are as good.
On a different note, he needs to have more songs like You Never Know imo, instead of being so political all the time. He's a fucking great storyteller, so I wanna hear more of that.

cool. been waiting on this forever. wonder how I'm gunna like it now that I'm a lot more anti-conspiracy theorist babbling than when his first dropped.

I agree with you v2kv, "Dance with the Devil", "You Never Know", good stuff, even this merely arrogant meaningless lyrics ("Obnoxious", etc.) seem to have more staying power.

fuck it was pretty disappointing.

"Lick Shot" was just horrible club bullshit. and all this 'yo, underground takin' ova, the industry sucks' shit was fuckin' pathetic.

Club bullshit from Immortal Technique? That's like Cryptopsy playing mallcore. That's depressing.

Is the industry sucks stuff any different than on previous albums, though? Off the top of my head one of my all-time favorite lines from him was "Independent labels, know I don't trust you. You're only indie till you're major so fuck you."

Never made it to Best Buy but now I'm afraid to get it.

Well I checked out the stuff on his MySpace and it fuckin' kicks ass so I will be getting 3rd World. Also I'm going to an Immortal Technique show tomorrow! I'm very excited.

I'm also interested in seeing what the make-up of the audience is since he has that line "They say fans of the underground are all the color of talcum..."

Went to Best Buy and Borders, neither had 3rd World...

Not that anybody probably cares, but, here's my brief review of the Immortal Technique show I just got back from.

First things first, there were like a million opening bands. More even than the large list on the ticket. Most of the first six or so sets were very good, including a surreal set from a white blonde skinny 21 year old chick rapping about new age hippie stuff. But the pre-headliners Poison Pen and The Circle was some of the most mediocre typical crap I've heard this side of Top 40 radio. Really, really shitty stuff and it was made worse by having to wait for Technique AND being let down after the earlier openers were really good. I know those pre-headliners are Immortal Technique's dear friends but their sets were entirely in contrast to all of the things Technique talks about in regards to the music business.

Tech finally came on after a couple hours... Great energetic set and banter, powerful messages. Mostly stuff off of Rev volume 2. The setlist went something like this:

1. something off 3rd World
2. Industrial Revolution
3. 3rd World (the song)
4. Harlem Streets
5. something I forget
6. Peruvian Cocaine
7. Bin Laden
8. Dance With The Devil
9. for the life of me I can't remember, but pretty sure it was vol 2
10. Encore: Obnoxious

Could be missing a couple things...

Most of all though, what a personality, man! Immortal Technique is probably the only guy that In actually want to do a lot of talking inbetween songs. There were some classic one-liners just through interacting with the crowd. We had all these beach balls throughout the openers' sets and some of the poppier bands were playing with them too but during Tech's set one flew near him and he says "This isn't Spring Break you fuckers. Don't let that thing come up here or I will knife that shit." That wasn't one of the better ones but it's the only one I can remember.

Probably my favorite MC. Just listen to those lyrics. Genius.

Been discussedd before, but yeah, he's fantastic. One of the very few rap artists I love.

As much as Revolutionary Volume 2 is generally considered his masterwork, lately I've found that I really like Volume 1 even more. Originally I felt it was a bit raw but now I think that gives it more strength. Volume 2 is more catchy and has more umph but I think the punches pack less power instantly after the first few listens. Whereas a song like The Getaway or Creation & Destruction never gets old for me. And I never get tired of the music. And of course Dance WIth The Devil is one of the best songs ever.

Immortal Techx is dope however other MCs I seriously recommend are
Ras Kass, Crooked I, Del, & K-Rino!!! They all got strong substance...
K-Rino is in my sig btw...
