Went to Best Buy and Borders, neither had 3rd World...
Not that anybody probably cares, but, here's my brief review of the Immortal Technique show I just got back from.
First things first, there were like a million opening bands. More even than the large list on the ticket. Most of the first six or so sets were very good, including a surreal set from a white blonde skinny 21 year old chick rapping about new age hippie stuff. But the pre-headliners Poison Pen and The Circle was some of the most mediocre typical crap I've heard this side of Top 40 radio. Really, really shitty stuff and it was made worse by having to wait for Technique AND being let down after the earlier openers were really good. I know those pre-headliners are Immortal Technique's dear friends but their sets were entirely in contrast to all of the things Technique talks about in regards to the music business.
Tech finally came on after a couple hours... Great energetic set and banter, powerful messages. Mostly stuff off of Rev volume 2. The setlist went something like this:
1. something off 3rd World
2. Industrial Revolution
3. 3rd World (the song)
4. Harlem Streets
5. something I forget
6. Peruvian Cocaine
7. Bin Laden
8. Dance With The Devil
9. for the life of me I can't remember, but pretty sure it was vol 2
10. Encore: Obnoxious
Could be missing a couple things...
Most of all though, what a personality, man! Immortal Technique is probably the only guy that In actually want to do a lot of talking inbetween songs. There were some classic one-liners just through interacting with the crowd. We had all these beach balls throughout the openers' sets and some of the poppier bands were playing with them too but during Tech's set one flew near him and he says "This isn't Spring Break you fuckers. Don't let that thing come up here or I will knife that shit." That wasn't one of the better ones but it's the only one I can remember.
