This thread reminds me of The Pillow Book of Sei Shonegon, an ancient Japanese dairy of a lady of the Heian period imperial court. Because in some sections of the book she (Shonegon) talks about the things that she loves or things that she hates.
It's a fuckign beautiful book and well worth reading if you ever find a copy of it.
I's think Penguin Books still publish a well tranlated and noted edition.
