As some of you may or may not know, The RockApe will be closing it’s doors as of the end of July and going on a perminet hiatus. Though the plan exists to reopen the Ape at a new location, it will operate as a Bar more than a Live Venue, though it will be putting on gigs from time to time, it does mean the end of a great Australian institution.

The RockApe has been providing Canberra, and Australia, with the only completely Metal dedicated venue for the past 4 years, providing gigs to local, interstate and international bands, but the time has come for all this to end. For the time being at least. So that is why Reggae and the staff of The RockApe are playing one last hoorah -the biggest gig that the Ape has seen yet! And we will be providing great gigs every weekend until the closing day! On the last day, the 24th of July, the Ape will be open early for the dedicated drinkers and the first act will start a little after 5 PM, ensuring a caner of a evening!

So, here it is: the current line-up for the Last Hoorah at the Ape, July 24th, 2004:

Acoustic openers:

Ben Sorensen (formerly of Looking Glass) will provide covers of some of the greats: Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin as well as many other classic Rock numbers.

Bull-Doug Spirit -This is Doug, formerly of Bulldog Spirit, playing some classic Punk and Rock covers. A good act for thoughs who miss the days of social rebellion through hard hitting lyrics & the true passion of music!
Where the Metal begins:

Shight: Canberra’s newest cross-over metal band, in fact, it’s my’s cross-over metal band. We play all sorts of metal sub-genres, with a focus on classic thrash. Don’t expect too much from us, this being our first proper gig and all, but make sure to come along early with ya’ll want revenge for all the shit The Pimp has paid on your bands at the Ape over the last 4 years.

The Bigots: classic punk lads. They have really provided the Ape with some all time great punk shows, even supporting Japanese Grinders: Unholy Grave, even to point of helping them book some of their shows. A great show, great guys and a whole bunch of jumpin’ ‘round. Not to be missed if ya’ll are a fan of Ronnie James Dio!

System Addict: Formerly Planets Collide, now they have a new name and a new direction, they are set to set Australia ablaze with their new sound.

Sindablok: Canberra’s hardest working band! Sindablok has provided soem of the best gigs and supports in Canberra over the last few years and are now really starting to come into their own, with soem new songs and a whole lot of attitude, Sindablok are truly the band to see!
Black Reign: These Wollongong Thrashers have given their full support to the Ape over years and good band to come & see, especially if ya’ll love Ol’ School Judas Priest style thrash.

Reign Of Terror: The band that will not die! The Ten Years of Terror has arrived and what better band to send The Ape off to oblivion then these lads. With Reggae still at the helm and Victor back on drums, prepare for one last blast of Soul Eroding Death Metal!

So, that’s the line-up as it stands.

Saturday July 24th.

Doors open early (times still to be posted), with the acoustic acts starting after 5 and the metal beginning close to 8.

Door will be fairly cheap ($10 or so) but that is too be advised.

So, now that ya’ll know, there ain’t any excuse for not coming to support the venue that has support the scene these past 4 years!

Peace
The Pimp NeonBlack
