I thought I'd put up a Porcupine Tree thread on Sprucey's behalf, given that my post on the drinking game thread probably made him reluctant to start a thread on the band. :)

The new Fear of a Blank Planet album has a big Opeth sticker on it, which makes it seem like an Opeth album at first glance. In fact it just has the logo and some quote on the band from Mikael Akerfeldt. It takes a bit of a closer examination to discover that it's actually a PT album. Is it any wonder that people hate Roadrunner?!

So anyway, if I bought that album, would it be a good introduction to the band?

or 'In Absentia'. The earlier work is a bit different. Still absolutely brilliant though.

Hmm,.... Only cause IA has shorter songs and less proggy in a way.
The first 4 somgs are killers and always makes me thing that the album is a winner... Plus... Hearattack in a Layby is one of my favorite PT songs along with Antitesiessszeuiszus and Arriving Somewhere but not here and lazarus and Blackest Eyes and Trains and The Start of Something Beautiul.... Hmm

Deadwing is awesome too, and probably my fave PT album, but I kinda thought IA might be easier to digest maybe.

What a tops band.

And the big Opeth logo on the sticker I didn't think was too bad.

Good on the label for trying to get people to pick up the album...it's their job.

Roadrunner now have Opeth, Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater...how awesome a prog stable of bands is that?

Next Gigantour lets see Megadeth, Opeth, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree and Machine Head

Porcupine Tree will support Dream Theater on their Australian tour I reckon (unfortunately)

Id much rather see Porcupine Tree do a full length show than see Dream Theater at all. The new DT album blows chunks.
