the mind's i lyrics discussion

I love Hedon... lets see if I can come up with anything... I'm gonna post the lyrics here, then see if I can interpret them... so I might be a while. I'll post a bit at a time.

And yeah, its obvious its about Hedonism :p

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enter Suicidal Angels;

How hungry we've become;
like animals naked in shame

Sex has become one of the basic parts of human interaction. There are no longer any boundaries between us and the beasts of the land in respect to sexual nature. Everything comes back to a need for sex.

Fed with the hooves of apocalypse
that galloped down, disordered worlds behind

This obsession with sex is breaking down social boundaries, dissolving all to an anarchist, hedonistic state.

From word to a word I was led to a word
that spanned over cultures in rage

I'd say 'greed' or 'lust' would be appropriate for this word. It is common to all tongues, while not the same word, the meaning is unmistakable.

Crimson masses, sleeped in decadence
holding our tongues to the thirsty sun

Though we are covered in our sins of the flesh, all we crave is more, a never ending deluge of sexual gratification is all we desire.

So, it the future still open? <So tell me. Tell me!>
Then enter, hornet, from our hive-dark hearts
to draw down the end from within

Our downfall will be this need, the greed for sex. It will destroy all people from the inside out, with no hope for a future.

We need not the horns
that emanate from our warty, haunted bodes
<Seven in number they are.>

Nihilist, Hedon
the priceless art of their lives
Sorrow is a wing laid atop their heads.
skin deep, we carve our immeasurable sorrow
in the fold of your shivering arms

Hedon,
Your children wild
and filled with death

# Jupiter in our unforgiving eves:
a pandemonium of bodies and gold
Eager, as a part of your face
and the sickness attached to your skin (stone)
as the wine-rush,
changing from androgynous wombs
to open free the lid of pain #

Hedon,
rinsed in post-human shadows
a monument scorned by the teeth of time
Stale-faced keeper of secrets,
loaded with implosive fire
the whore that carried the apostle
to the mating point on the graves of giants

We look at you, afraid
to see what we really are.

~Kovenant (Interpretation on its way)

I remember (back in the year 1 or 2, that is :p) somebody pointing out that the verse "we need not the horns/ that emanate from our warly, haunted bodies/ seven in number they are" would refer to the seven deadly sins, and at least to me, this insight was the very key to understanding the lyrics of Hedon in whole. :)

@Lamia:
Kai.

I have always thought that The Mind´s I is quite antichristian album. And I thought "how hungry we have become, like .. .."
is about original sin and religional stuff.

I think Kovenant is being too narrow - its not just sex, its everything. Its the crumbling of boundaries and self-restraint. All that matters is the now, the rush - and the slow, imperctible slide into evil that comes...

We have destroyed everything we believe in, and as such fall into depression - which leads us further into the self-destructive hedonistic way...

What about drinking theme?
"Crimson masses, sleeped in decadence
holding our tongues to the thirsty sun"
:)

Enter Suicidal Angels;

once mankind is angels, but we have fallen, and with nothing we are self-destructive...

How hungry we've become;
like animals naked in shame
Fed with the hooves of apocalypse
that galloped down, disordered worlds behind

our greed has become ceaseless as we regress back from our civilised state. we have seen the end, and the end has scattered what we were...

From word to a word I was led to a word
that spanned over cultures in rage
Crimson masses, sleeped in decadence
holding our tongues to the thirsty sun

we fall contininuously, until we reach the end - and yet we want more, and more...

So, it the future still open? <So tell me. Tell me!>
Then enter, hornet, from our hive-dark hearts
to draw down the end from within

the seed of destruction is small, innocent-seeming, yet it lurks within

We need not the horns
that emanate from our warty, haunted bodes
<Seven in number they are.>
as somebody else pointed out, the seven sins... we don't need symbols of evil to adorn us, for our evil is obvious already

Nihilist, Hedon
the priceless art of their lives
Sorrow is a wing laid atop their heads.
skin deep, we carve our immeasurable sorrow
in the fold of your shivering arms

we have become self destructive... what we created, the "priceless art" is gone, and has been replaced by sorrow, floating us up... yet making us more self-destructive, and we are shivering, cold and alone

Hedon,
Your children wild
and filled with death

we are without discipline, and all of us carries destruction

# Jupiter in our unforgiving eves:
a pandemonium of bodies and gold
Eager, as a part of your face
and the sickness attached to your skin (stone)
as the wine-rush,
changing from androgynous wombs
to open free the lid of pain #
the need for the rush grows greater, so we delve deeper to find it...

Hedon,
rinsed in post-human shadows
a monument scorned by the teeth of time
Stale-faced keeper of secrets,
loaded with implosive fire
the whore that carried the apostle
to the mating point on the graves of giants

we are beyond human. we have gone beyond, and what we had we scorned. carrying our destruction, we are formed of the meeting between devil and saint, influenced by the heroes of the past

We look at you, afraid
to see what we really are.

we see our evil in each other, and are afraid to look... lest we see our reflections in them

"holding our tongues to the thirsty sun"

Religion maybe? the sun is the source of light and so is god, and holding your tongue to something hot like the sun isnt going to quench your thirst so theres some irony there, that kind of stuff is all over DT lyrics so thats no suprise, but if we go with the religion theme it could have something to do with religion hurting worshipers? although the sun could be a metaphor for other things its just basically saying you are being hurt by something you dont expect to be hurt by.

@Lamia:
What about seven heads?
"A Beast rose from the ocean, equipped with seven heads, 4 shotgun and 10 horns. Insults were written on its forehead.
So whole mankind kneeled before the mighty Beast and ate hamburgers."

RealHazard, a man who read bible today.

"holding our tongues to the thirsty sun"

but its not us we are thirsty,but the sun,yet we hold our tongues as if we were.(?)

still the first impression i got from the song was about sex and the seek of it in nowadays society

where is niklas(hedon) to explain some bits???????????

@RH:
I didn't know they talk about hamburgers in the Bible?! :p

Seven heads.

It's a good remark, but I would still go for the deadly sins. The verse is:

"we need not the horns
that emanate from our warly, haunted bodies
seven in number they are".

As in, we don't want to be what we are, right? We don't want to be as bad as we are. We don't want to sin,
yet we can't help it. The seven horns would refer to the seven sins that have taken over the good in us
and our "warly, haunted bodies" can't fight it anymore.

Uh, I'm too damn tired to think clear right now... see you later.
