the lurker thread just got me onto a new topic idea, who would you say has THE MOOOOOOOOOST powerful and best voice in Metal??

Heres my list of favorites so far (not really in any order)

Tobias Sammet ( Edguy )
Tony Martin (ex Black Sabbath)
Russell Allen ( Some sucky band we all hate ;) )

Jorn Lande (Mundanus Imperium, Ark, his solo project, Masterplan)
Pollution and I were talking about him the other day in irc. Definitely, definitely look up Ark's Burn the Sun if you've not got it already - samples at http://www.arksite.com. I'd also recommend Masterplan's self-titled debut which is excellent but Jorn's vocals make it stand out for me.

Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia)
I'd heard a bit about Edguy but was a little sceptical. I picked up Hellfire Club and was just taken aback. It was like a power metal punch in the face. Absolutely fantastic - especially Sammet's unique and powerful voice which suits both the more energetic power metal tracks like Down to the Devil and Rise of the Morning Glory (what a concept) and equally the ballads like The Spirit Will Remain and Forever. Also, on the Lavatory Love Machine EP, the acoustic version of the title track is pretty damn awesome and so is I'll Cry For You - both of which have vocals as a big emphasis.

Russell Allen (Symphony X, Star One)
If you're not completely astounded and amazed by the power, emotion and versatility conveyed by the superb voice of this man, then you probably shouldn't be here. Enough said.

Daniel Gildenlow - I only have 1 PoS album (ohbtcl), but I am constantly amazed and re-amazed by what he can do with his voice.

The coolest voice but certainly not the best is Brian Johnsons' from ACDC.

The best and most talented would have to be:
Russel Allen: the first time I listened to Candlelight Fantasia I was in awe. (kissing the tears from your face, as they fall to the ground in silence) It's so beutiful. If I had to pick someone else, I'd pick Jaems Labrie, Bruce Dickoson, or for power, Johan Klitkou from Chastisement.

I gotta agree with you, his voice makes me so emotional... Such a master
:worship:

Jouni Nikula from Requiem ( he has this operatic voice, that simply I can't resist...Especially in Masquerade ...)
Mattias "IA" Eklundh from Freak Kitchen ( and his solo project of course :) )
Tobias Sammet from EdGuy (And Avantasia ;) )
And of course Rusell ;)

Ray Alder
Russell Allen
Dan Swano
Matt Barlow
Erik Rosvald
Warrel Dane
and Jorn Lande when he isn't uttering the words "Baby" or "yeah"

many others, but sooo tired. maybe post again.

Russell Allen
Matt Barlow
Ronnie James Dio
Geoff Tate (well, used to be powerful)
Ray Alder
Rob Halford
Bruce Dickinson

IMHO, I don't consider LaBrie's voice very powerful.

I think Russell has the best overall metal voice, because not only is it powerful, dead on key, and really involves you in the music, but Russ really knows how to USE his voice, accent works, where to use vibrato, where to slur. He's an absolute pro. In terms of natural voice talent, Edu of Angra is downright incredible. Such a big full sound comes out of that skinny guy with almost zero effort, he's like the male Whitney Houston, only without all the domestic abuse (or so I would assume anyway). In terms of knowing how to layer, produce, and inflect vocals, however, Kai Hansen hands down. Just listen to Somewhere Out in Space and try not to fall into a huge outerspace pirate war smuggling laser fantasy.

I have always thought Jorn Lande sucked. Granted I haven't heard him in a while but when I saw him with Yngwie I was mega disappointed. He seemed like an amature in tone, presence, pitch, everything. Then again, following Mark Boals and Jeff Scott Soto is not so easy.

BTW - best voice ever is Freddy Mercury

You kiddin'? Russell Allen has the voice of a God. We should worship golden images of him each morning before we eat our Oreo-O's. He has been compared with Dio but actually is much better than him, with his incredible range and power. He towers high above the others, and could out-sing them all with two punctured lungs. He is the best metal vocalist of all time, and there can be no question about that.
Next- Eric Adams from Manowar and maybe Ripper Owens from Iced Earth

no order

i saw iced earth with evergrey and bodom and i hadnt known who they were before that night. and i tell you what iced earth with ripper owens had so much energy from the crowd to the stage that i was just amazed i thought that i had watched the whole but didnt long stry

ripper owens

russel allen

geoff tate

ive only herd little pain of salvation love every vocalist in the band

i like all of those man vocalist who soun like there gay but there not like geddy lee and john anderson .

I like

Russell Allen, absolute no 1, his voice is EXACTLY my taste.
Mikael Akerfeldt, a beautiful voice when he's singing clean, and an awesome gruntsound.
Daniel Gildenlow, he's able of putting so much emotion in his singing.
James Hetfield, sorry man, gotta love the voice of Metallica.
