The Music Biz Can't Stem the Bleeding...

I love buying cds! and what I love even more than buying cds is buying vinyl!
I got an Ipod for christmas, returned it and paid the money right back to my mom to settle some of my debt to her!
I'm close to doing the same with my iPod, except I'd get the cash back and buy a Zune instead. I heard they're really good. I buy CDs because I like to have the artwork and the disc in a nice case. I'd rather buy a CD for $10 at an online shop like The End Records than pay $1 per track of a 15 track CD and end up paying more....

Why buy CDs and own an iPod? Simple: The CDs will out-live the iPod. Mine crashes every time I plug it in.

There's nothing better than going to your music store to buy a cd which they end up not having in stock, spending too much for it, going home and spending a good 10 minutes "unwrapping" it, finding out the case is broken, or getting on of those wierd "digipacks" which is not smart if you want to keep the album in your collection, trying to tear out the cd booklet without breaking something, finding out it has no lyrics in it or something, putting the album on in your cd player while trying not to break the cd....than you have to spend money and have alot of space just to store cd's which are so cheaply made with "jewel cases" which break so easily and you have to worry about finding a cd when you want to listen to it...

I would prefer buying an album online because I can see this being much more convienient in the future with album artwork and such, maybe even some additional content, maybe bands will start adding more content such as documentaries, more videos and stuff on their albums. Also this can be much better in terms of "supporting the artist" because they won't have to worry about distribution etc... Also you wouldn't have to go to a cd store just to buy an album and it would be more about the music than a competition between who has more money. I would like to be able to actually afford the music I want to listen to, and be able to find it, otherwise it is too much trouble imo, and it takes away from the whole music experience...

It's really not that hard at all.

I much prefer buying CDs. Downloading music ruins the art in a way as people will only download several songs, and perhaps not appreciate the full album.

Even if I don't like some of the songs from an album I buy them anyway when I buy online. It feels wrong going from 01 - _______ to 04 - _______ or something!

Petty squabbles!

I can understand reasons for both sides, but saying that buying mp3's online is more comfortable than buying cd's is just wrong. You can just as well order cd's online, and then they get shipped to your house. It's just a matter of waiting a few days...

It takes a couple of few minutes to download an album on your computer and seconds to download artwork and liner notes, versus a few days to even a week or months it could take to get a cd in the mail....

IMO download purchases are much more convenient than cds, I have bought cd's online from a website and it has been so much more convenient in every way, especially if you only listen to music on computer/mp3 player. Anyone who buys cds just to rip them to their computer, could understand the convenience of buying cds and downloading them without having to spend time ripping tracks to their computer... :)

the smart and even more convenient way to do this would be to just download the album (not buy it), buy the CD, and listen to the downloaded mp3's while the CD is on its way. I'd say you're a fool who's ripping himself off any other way. I've received original used CDs/artwork ranging from anyone from Ulver to Rush to King Crimson to Godspeed You Black Emperor for $1.75 a pop on a site I've plugged here before. the CDs range from decent to perfect condition - all perfectly playable (because I'd get refunded if they weren't). so anyone who would want to think that it's cheaper buying songs off iTunes or something can obviously see it isn't

I have a 20gb mp3 player, which I have filled. I have never downloaded any music. Owning one doesn't mean you have to stop buying cd's

Actually, I would rather buy stuff on vynl, I don't have a polyphony at this particular time, but I would prefer to have a vynl collection than a lame cd collection, as they are more classy, lol

Also I will be able to collect sealed vynils and ultra rare 7"s and original pressings and shit

fuck cd's btw

you prefer vinyl, but you prefer mp3 downloading instead of waiting on the hassle of cd delivery & packaging.

what ARE you smoking? dumbass...
oh yeah, and  at not being able to spell vinyl and yet professing to be an enthusiast.

I don't use vynil....dumbass.....

I prefer mp3's for listening to music, but vinil is cool for collecting and stuff, the packaging is fine and is actually preferable over jewel cases to me... cd's take just as long to be delivered as vinel
