the new judas priest album

Maiden's the band that saved me from Top 40 radio... Greatest band of all time.

If you want a good place to start, then get Number of the Beast. Then, from there, progress forward through their discography all the way to Seventh Son, and then backtrack and pick up the first two with Paul Di'Anno, the debut and Killers. Those are some of the best albums ever written.

You're retarded.

regarding new priest: sounds pretty good so far

regarding Maiden's Dance of Death, I think it's definetly better than what I've heard of Brave New World. DoD is actually quite a good album, if you spin it a few times, there's something about it.

anything by maiden in the 80s is splendid. i thought brave new world and dance of death lacked variety, had songs that went on way too long, and lacked the usual riffs that they can rip out of their asses.

It's nice to see quite a few people here appreciating Priest...normally everywhere I go offline or online I see a bunch of trendy ignorant Maiden worshipping doots who never heard more than 3 Priest songs.
I like "angel of retribution" alot, it sounds like it came straight out of the 80s. But I honestly think the rest of the Halford albums (except turbo, point of entry and rocka rolla) own it. And while I think Priest is better than Maiden, I do think Brave new world owns this album.

Priest are metal gods indeed, and so are Maiden. But I'm in a minority in liking DoD better than BNW, even if the production is fucking awful on both albums. Too sterile, I fucking hate it, it kills some of the songs.

^ nah, I think DoD > BNW, but I also think Priest > Maiden, and then even further, possibly Sabbath > Priest > Maiden.

also, your whole obsession w/Jethro Tull was funny when you first posted in the Opeth forum, but as of late, I've gotten into them, and must say they are quite awesome. So far have aqualung album on mp3s, and bought Thick as a Brick. I think I'm going for Passion Play next, suggestions?

well if you've never been a priest fan, i wouldn't recommend you to try and get into Angel of Ret..instead pick up the 3 consecutive "S" albums and be wowed.
Sad Wings of Destiny
Sin after Sin
Stained Class
and of course, check out Painkiller.

^Nah, I wouldn't start with those. I would rather suggest British Steel and Screaming for Vengeance. Of course, Painkiller is a must, but it is not representative of the average Priest album.
I haven't heard the new album, I just downloaded the single, Revolution, and didn't like it at all (the chorus reminds me of some song off Marylin Manson's Mechanical Animal, that's bad), so I though the album wasn't worth listening. Since everyone here agrees that the album slays, I might reconsider.

Concerning Iron Maiden, they are in my opinion the best metal band ever. They just never bore me. My favorite album is Powerslave. This album has absolutly no filler, plain perfect. I also like 7th Son of A 7th Son a lot.
Concerning the last two albums, I like them a lot, but obviously they are inferior to the first 7. I prefer DoD as a whole, though The Wickerman is my favorite song of those two albums. I really like the two title tracks as well, they are both very original songs. Journeyman would be a great song to conclude the final album of their great career, if that's what is going to happen.

Errr, I'd never even heard Tull when I first posted in this forum mate, so I'm not quite sure what you're on about? :erk:
Anyway, I wouldn't suggest Passion Play next - I love it but it's hard going for a lot of people (I prefer it to TAAB but the whole "Hare Who Lost His Spectacles" thing is a bit much for some). There's a good website that explains all the lyrics for that album and it's very interesting "Ministry of Iformation" I think it's called.
I'd suggest you try "Heavy Horses", "Minstrel In The Gallery", or "Stormwatch". Everything from "Aqualung" to "Stormwatch" is classic to my mind, especially to a metal/rock fan. The rest is good depending on your musical outlook, although "Under Wraps" is shite. "Minstrel..." is my favourite Tull album, the title track, especially the extended guitar intro, is fucking immense beating most metal bands for sheer energy and class( yes including Priest or Maiden - download it if you don't believe me), but the rest of the album isn't exactly "rock" music.
I don't know - you need to buy all the albums and decide what's your favourite!
For single songs on download, try "Life's A long Song", "Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of A New Day", "Only Solitaire", "Lick Your Fingers Clean" or "Stitch In Time" which has some brilliant bass playing from Ian Anderson.

BTW You need to check out the Cup Of Wonder website to get the full meaning of all the lyrics, which, in the earlier days at least, were a huge part of the bands overall genius.

I didn't think much of the new album.

The thought that pops into my mind whenever I listen to Judas Priest is that I probably would have loved it if I'd lived 25 years ago when there were much less worthwhile bands to listen to. But because there's currently so many other great bands clamouring for my attention with new and excellent material (points to Opeth), Judas Priest manage to sound incredibly stale to me.

The new album just sounds like everything else they've made in the 70s & 80s to me. There's nothing new about it, nothing fresh, nothing creative, nothing that would attract me to it unless I was a balding 45 year old who wanted to feel nostalgic about days long gone. And I'm not certainly not that old.

They may have been one of the biggest influences on metal as a whole, but so are Metallica, Slayer, Motley Crue, etc and they're all pretty worthless studio-wise these days. It doesn't make a suitable defence.

P.S. I've had a major soft spot for Iron Maiden for several years running now. :D

^ yeah i can understand what you're saying about it being nothing new or creative, i agree. i'm not one of the people who was like OMG the album fuckins owns my life, i mean, it's good, but nothing new.

also, ernie, i dunno why everyone thinks British Steel is so good, and it's their best, i'm not very impressed by it. it's just like commercial-ish sounding to me, i like breaking the law and grinder a lot, but..the album just doesn't do it for me, and i dont get why everyone jizzes about it.

I don't like British Steel that much either - Killing Machine is much better and so is Sad Wings of Destiny.
Deliverance, I first posted in the Opeth forum in May 2003 - I used to post here regularly and I'd never heard Tull back then. I think you're talking about when I posted in here recently, but I did used to be a regular after Deliverance came out.

As for the new Priest album, I've got it, and its fucking great.

I'm guessing you live somewhere outside the states? cause here Killing Machine is called Hellbent for Leather haha.

That's what I figured, you posted here a while ago, but I didn't see you till you started posting here again last year.
