The new Megadeth album...

after a few listens i like it better than the previous one ...
while I thought Washington is Next was a mouthful lyrically ... it now reminds me of old angry Dave :kickass:

I admit, it's not bad. Not bad at all. I was expecting it to be a complete disaster but some of it is actually pretty spectacular. And it gets better with each listen.

Can't wait to see the lyrics in print.

The "tout le monde" remake is redundant -- this will always be a track to skip over.

One thing I've noticed is that while Dave Mustaine's guitar leads are as blistering as usual, this Glenn Drover chap from Eidolon isn't bringing anything to the table. Dave always needs a Poland, Friedman, and perhaps even Pitrelli to create that 'duality' in the guitar leads, and it just 'aint there with Drover.

That said, the drumming and bass work is very decent, so Megadeth might as well just be a 3 piece at this point.

"The 'UN' is right, you can't be any more 'un'". Ugh.
Anyway, I agree that this album is pretty decent. Better than System, which makes it their best since Youthanasia. The first two tracks are the strongest, but the rest are solid, with the excecption of the remake, which is useless. I'm seeing them tomorrow night w/ Sabbath.

well I'm interested to buy this. Hope it's as good as you guys say. Otherwise you'll owe me a bunch of money

Am I the only guy here who thinks Megadeth suck save for their very early 90s material? Just wondering. Ftr, I have owned every album at one point or another, so I'm not just talking smack.

well, after Youthanasia they went downhill pretty badly, but The World needs a Hero was a very decent album IMO. Did not bother with The System has Failed, but I'll check out this one.

Was The World Needs a Hero the one with Al Pitrelli and the song Return to Hangar? That was so bad I think I threw it away.

Best since Youthanasia. As for the remake, it's superb. I realize that remaking your own song will never sit well and duets are as unKVLT as fuck. But it's still a cool song. Love Christina's voice on this song.

Zod

Yep. Definitely digging it - shocking that MegaDave is still capable of releasing material of this quality. I also love the fact that it's coinciding with me seeing them in concert in a week and a half.

Looking forward to it all the more now. Parking lot, Zod, Paula, compilation discs, flasks, beer, Megadeth, Heaven & Hell = :kickass:

<- kicking self.

The fact is, I've been listening to DioSabbath, Dio, and Megadeth non stop for the last month (even went out and bought 3 remastered 'Deth releases). Why oh why am I not going to this gig now? *grumbles*

I'll try to catch 'Deth on their own tour, but I do hope they play somewhere like Irving Plaza, or anywhere in Manhattan.

Wait. You're saying their best stuff is Countdown and Youthanasia? Hmm, yeah I suppose I can see some folks preferring that stuff over the earlier releases.

I am totally enamored with the remastered versions of Killing, Peace Sells, and SFSGSW. I have never heard "Mary Jane" sound so great.

I guess I'm gonna bite the bullet and get the remastered Rust in Peace.....but fuck me, doing anything to that album other than offer devout worship is sacrilegious.

No, Rust and Countdown. I didn't enjoy Youthanasia too much. I never thoroughly enjoyed the earlier albums like Peace Sells, although I owned them (haha those were pre-internet days you know). Deth fell out of favor with me after Youthanasia and several albums were released and I never knew it. It was only a couple years ago that I bought Cryptic Writings and The World Needs a Hero, only to be dissapointed yet again.
The System Has Failed was absolutely terrible.
