I've loved Slipknot since their first album, I know a lot of people will say they "are just another nu-metal band", but I highly disagree.
I've always regarded Slipknot as a heavy metal band, even their first album... the songs are a lot more complex and thrashier than other bands in the nu-metal ring, IMHO. After their 1st album though, I kinda expected their 2nd album to be a lot lighter and mellowed out (like how Limp Bizkit did, and pretty much any other band with good exposure that you see on TV).
Their 2nd album was the exact opposite of what I expected, they got darker, heavier, metal-er... (lets just pretend thats a word
).
and now their 3rd album (with the 3 songs I've heard)... they're reminding me of Anthrax in some parts, especially the song Pulse of the Maggots during the solo (yes, a solo). Their drummer is really shining on these songs... which he did on their last album too.
I know there are some people on this board that don't like Slipknot, and will probably always classify them as nu-metal, and I think thats sad, because these guys are metal, IMHO.
everyone has their oppinions though, and this is just mine
