Without being a nu-metal-nerd-frustrated-young-american-skater-eitherwisenonmetal-retard, and being a great fan of classic heavy metal I can tell you that the last 2-3 records by KORN are really great, heavy, emotional records!
I think NUmetal is a bad name after all
Slipknot, FF, SoaD, S-X, Disturbed, Kittie, Otep, IN are kinda hardcore
LB, LP, PR can be considered as rapcore
Korn, Deftones, CC as Spooky core (it is a good name to label them)
Nickelback, Incubus, POD are plain rock
etc...
no need to label them as NU. i would agree if you say NU is a stream of bands. Like grunge was. (Nirvana/Soundgarden/Pearl Jam doesnt have to do much with eachother musically spoken)

I voted for the following bands because:
Korn - their debut cd is mega-inventive and refreshing (for that time!!) and in fact I enjoy listening to it, I only don't like the term nu-metal, stupid name. 4 latest albums are getting worse and worse
Deftones - The only spooky core (like it's originally called) band that didn't disappoint me yet. Adrenaline kicks major ass. No bad albums up to date
Static-X - I have the album Machine and there are some real fine tracks on it. Not for every day though
Fear Factory - Not that this is nu-metal imo but I liked everything up to Obsolete. Latest was crap
Machine Head - Exactly the same comment as for FF. Latest album is crap
Coal Chamber - First album only, other 2 are crap

StaticX, check their first album as well, it even more nuts
techno on guitars with death-metal-vocals. For people who dont know: like FF, but more extreme and electronicMH's as the things change... is really amazing

Well guys, I'm quite open-minded, and I enjoy most of these bands, except Linkin Park (because everybody likes them ), Ill Nino (Soulfly Bad rippers) , Nickelback (mmmmh, except some really good songs)...
But, you have to admit that Deftones, Korn, Otep, Slipknot are really inovative bands by the way... They're doing their thing quite good... And they are more originals than all these crappy bands... Like Dry Kill Logic or Mushroomhead...

Actually, I enjoy listening to the KsE abulm... not every day of course, but I'll slap it in rotation a few times.
Would you really consider System of a Down nu-metal? I think it's un-fair to place them in such company as say... Disturbed. Toxicity was a very well-thought out abulm, it's not their fault it gained such commercial success.
