The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) recently adopted an internationally recognized definition and procedure for measuring standby power. This new procedure (IEC 62301) supersedes the FEMP Measurement Guideline.

IEC 62301 differs in only minor aspects from the FEMP measurement guideline. Results will be the same for nearly all products.

FEMP will accept existing measurements made with the FEMP Measurement Guideline. There is no need to re-test products for which data has already been submitted to the Standby Power Data Center.

The IEC 62301 test procedure can be purchased and downloaded from the IEC Web store at webstore.iec.ch (Specify the bilingual edition. Note that "98 CHF" refers to 98 Swiss Francs, about $75 US.) We have provided an unofficial summary of the test procedure here.
