not really. :p now i'll be pedantic and set this straight: "ciao" is a contraction of "sciao" which is renaissance venetian dialect for "slave". people from the upper classes greeted each other saying, basically, "i'm your slave". also, for all you non-italians out there, "ciao" is something that we use as both "hello" and "goodbye". i never quite figured out why abroad it's only used as "goodbye". and to get back on topic of this thread

^ was kind enough to share her misguided notion on the origin of "ciao" (Chairman Mao is much better). Though there is something attractive about enslaving yourself before starting to talk to another person, it would certainly save me from doing it during the conversation.
