the pic from top ten most ridiculous black metal

Actaully I see your point, in the last year or so the straight edge hardcore scene in America has been under scutiny after a few nut jobs who just happened to be sXe went and murdered a lad. The same happened with the Hells Angels in the 60's. So i guess you're right. Any scene has it's minority of cock ends.

Except rap and pop that has the majority of cock ends and the minority that just want to make good music! :tickled:

Still, it would be cool to talk to people who hung out with the BM bands back in the day, when they were just starting out and doing small gigs. Promoters who put them up and stuff like that who just saw them as bands and not terrorists!

But besides all that even though I have read those articles before I still cry with laughter reading it! Some amazing photos!

And I still want to make a version of the Immortal video with Yackety Sax playing in the background. Must be done!

lol@not knowing about burzum or mayhem and calling yourself a "black metal" fan.

I do find that a little odd to be honest. They're both shite, but if you anything about Black Metal you should know who Mayhem and Burzum are. Fair enough if you hadn't heard Dimmu Borgir or Immortal or something...but Mayhem and Burzum?

I think everyone on here could name the like 10 staple BM bands that everyone has heard of, even if they don't like the genre or particular band!

Darkthrone
Mayhem
Emperor
Burzum
Enslaved
Immortal
Satyricon
Ulver (early stuff)
Dimmu Borgir
Cradle Of Filth

Ok, I know some of that is pushing it a little, but it was off the top of my head. Would anyone dispute these? And would anyone here deny knowledge of any of these bands? I'm sure I forgot a few obvious ones...

Well the last 2 yeah. I love both, but people get so uptight about genres. But no one can dispute they are the most known (in the mainstream) BM bands, even if its a misconception its a well known misconception!!

And I suppose they are staple, even though lots of BM fans would complain at mentioning them, but in 20 years people will remember BM as Dani Filth burning churches, and all the actual Norweigans will be forgotten. Maybe there will be echoes of Varg, but its more of a legend than reality, and people will think "Yeah, but didn't they dress funny..." and "I heard he turns into a demon in the full moon..." Just the way the world is, based on hearsay and chinese whispers!

Indeed! There is a good site, with Anus in the title if I remember correctly? It had the staple Death, Black, Thrash and that sort of thing on it...

http://www.anus.com/metal/about/blackmetal.html

I think thats the site!

And they actually have Dimmu Borgir up until 2001, which is more of their albums than I thought would be mentioned!

Its only when you see a list and think Ah, oh yeah, I know them, and them and them, doesn't help that they don't have catchier names to remember though!
