The Pitchrecognition thread

Rain Man was awesome. I don't think that guy had perfect pitch, but I see what you mean. The other post just made it sound like Aspbergers and pitch were directly related, unless I misunderstood.

First of, Rain Main is Autistic(Asperger is related to Autism, but its far from the same thing.). ;)

But the point is that people with Asperger are somewhat savants(But they are usually not born with a special skill, its developed.).
They develop their skills much faster then other people, because their brains are faster at putting 1 + 1 into 2, but they might not be able to put 2 + 2 into 4(Meaning that you cant learn things you don't want to learn, no matter how hard you try.).

Like me, I SUCK at history before 1939, because i think its so incredibly boring, but when I went to my first guitar lesson(2 months after I started to play guitar.), my guitar teacher thought I had played for at least 2 years.

I also have a graphical sense of pitch, meaning that I see notes an rhythms as lines and patterns, instead of hearing them(Think of a piano roll).

This is true indeed. I guess the most common "special skills" that people with Aspergers develop are either computer- or music related. I once read that there's a massive concentration of people diagnosed with Aspergers at Silicone Valley, which is not too surprising. IIRC they were kids who were born there that were diagnosed with it, which makes sense, as Aspergers is quite often inherited.

I was also suspected of having Aspergers as a kid BTW, but the doctor decided that I was just learning quickly. Nowadays I'm not so sure if he was correct.

The most common skills that are developed are math-based, and I guess that computers and music somewhat goes under math. ;P

I noticed that you are from Finland, do you speak Swedish?
If so you can do this test: http://www.psykologitest.se/test/asperger.php
It can tell if you have some of the characteristics from Asperger, and it might be an idea to get a real test if you get results on this one(There is alot of help to get out there.).
