I'm not really interested in copying the sound but I am very curious about the processing. I can't link to it at the moment but if you go to YouTube and listen to "anodyne sea", towards the end there is a breakdown and the kick sounds phenomanel. It is beyond tight in lows but what catches my attention is the the tightness of the higher frequencies. Probably some multiband comp going on (or had the sickest sample in history) but aside from that, anyone have any idea on how to process a kick in that fashion?

I've seen the sessions colin mixed for that record at Tim's studio. He just blended two kick samples. A little compression. I think with the CLA-76 or the MH strip iirc. No crazy secret. Just balance and eq as far as I know. Been a while though. I do know he has a set of custom samples that he rotates through each project.

You're best bet is to find some awesome samples and mix them correctly.
