The reason why I hate radio

Totally agree with the first vid. Second did nothing but prove they have the same tempo.

And Kedollarsignsha looks like Taylor Swift on crack. Just sayin'.

Honestly, I was the only one of my friends to notice the Katy Perry/Ke$ha thing within a second. I was shocked in disbelief that no one put it together. This is why people listen to radio music.

Yeah that Katy Perry and Kesha shit was immediately noticeable as well. I actually go to a decent amount of clubs and bars that play this shit. Why? Im single, and I like chicks, and that's where they go, and I do ok with them, so stfu. But anyways, yeah... its ridiculous

* It's two different "performances"
* It's bullshit
fact: The pop industry tends to "recycle" songs that makes money, new lyrics -> new artist -> use different instruments -> use same chords and structure

That's ALL music.
Ever listened to metal?

There exists a finite number of permutations on basic chord structures. Now, take from those those that actually sound good (Em, G, C, D for example) and put them into a very limited number of structure variations (Assume it needs an intro, a verse and a chorus and you're not pretentious symphonic metal that has 50 other sections... that, OH YEAH are based on what was done in the 1600s) and you'll see why there's not much "new" that can be done with music.

It's always funny seeing heavy metal fans rag on pop for being samey recycled shite when metal and most/all other genres are exactly the same.

oh boy... there's that "nothing's ever new" argument again. may as well never watch a tv show, or a movie, or eat some new food, or drink a beer or fuck a girl... cuz the jokes are rehash and the drama's nothing new and the food's been done and the beer's centuries old and pussy is pussy, right?

Was that aimed toward me?

Nobody said you couldn't enjoy something just because it has limitations.

I think Gavin with just pointing out, rightly so, that every industry, not just the pop one, succumbs to the same inevitable rehashing of ideas, doesn't mean you can't enjoy the music, just means you are aware that one type of music can not necessarily be differentiated from another in this circumstance.

My solution is just not listen to the radio.
Seems easy to me. I've somehow made it to this point without actually ever hearing a Kesha or Katy Perry song.
Most metalcore is pretty homogeneous too really.
Sometimes I wonder what's the point of even starting a band these days.
I could easily go and start a KSE-style melodic metalcore band, but what's the point? To sound just like every other goddamn metalcore band these days?
Everyone just wants to be a star, have an excuse to be on stage and have everyone love them, but what the fuck is the point?
What have you really achieved other than your own selfish, pretentious desires?
I think it just goes to show what a self absorbed, instant gratification type society we live in now and have been living in for quite a while now.

I don't mind a lot of well-written pop songs, I don't rly care of they're original or not. What REALLY pisses me off is the lyrics. Nevermind the content, you used to have 8 lines in a chorus or whatever. Then someone realized you could have a chorus with 4 lines. Then two lines. Then one line. Then one word (Alejandro Alejandro Alejandro). Then one fucking letter with this OMG song that has zero hooks or melody whatsoever and the chorus consists of: o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o my god o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o my god.

to me writing music and writing poems for example is the same deal :
we have words that have been used a 1000 times before, and still
we are able to creatie a new feel, a new story with these existing "tools"
(words and sentences). making something new is not only about
the tools you use, but what you make out of them.
but the undeniable fact is : music is repeating and repeating itself.

and 99.9 % of the people do not care. because there is no money being spent on education. that makes culture suffer... i mean in 30 years, will there still
be people listening to classical music? if i take a look around seeing the kids
listening to t-pain and katy perry - i doubt that kids will ever learn to appreciate art and really take the time to "dive into" music.
its all too sad.

WHats the point eh ?.. how about doing it just because you love the music, love writing it and love playing it instead of focusing so much on if it have been done before :err:.
The whole "all scene/emo/metalcore bands just do it for the fame and don't really care about music" point is getting a bit old (not targeted directly at you! :)).

On topic:
I agree with Morgan C, dont really mind some good written pop songs.

the reason why i hate radio is because our radiostations play the same couple of songs over and over again, 10times minimum each day..
and after a short while i get sick of it... no matter how good the songs are.. too much is too much..

i´m kinda forced to hear radio in my dayjob.. in private life, i never turn on the radio.

i´m very openen minded to most kinds of music, i listen to classical, jazz, metal, punk, rock, pop, electronic, experimental and dance.
and i would probably enjoy alot of this pop shit playing on the radio, if it would not be over and over played the whole time..
and I do enjoy analyse pop songs, how the arrangment is done, and the production. latter one is pretty interesting imho.

and a big +1 to dcb and morgan c

Well to me, part of actually loving music is CREATING ART.
Something totally lost on most of today's generation of so called "musicians".
It's entirely possible to love music and actually make something not totally rehashed, but the reality is most people will never actually be that creative and daring enough to do it.
And a lot of those who are creative and daring enough are often underappreciated anyway.
It still boggles my mind that most people would rather listen to "Kesha" or Katy Perry over something that's actually truly brilliant like the music of Tchaikovsky or Opeth.

Exactly, it's counterintuitive, why not just like the things you like because you like them and leave it at that?

It's certainly a very novel idea.

I do this with everything else, when I go out for fish and chips I don't look at them and think "I like these because they are a refreshing blend of deep fried high starch carbohydrates and seafood, although they do lack a certain je ne sais quoi due to their rather ubiquitous nature", no, I go "OM NOM NOM" and leave it at that.

Trying to rationalise your particular taste is pointless and self defeating, be honest with yourself and just accept what it is you like and if you don't like it, well then, don't worry or concern yourself with it, because it doesnt matter.
