I do this with everything else, when I go out for fish and chips I don't look at them and think "I like these because they are a refreshing blend of deep fried high starch carbohydrates and seafood, although they do lack a certain je ne sais quoi due to their rather ubiquitous nature", no, I go "OM NOM NOM" and leave it at that.

You know... Up until "OM NOM NOM", which was where you fucked it, that was probably the most cultured description of Fish and Chips I have seen.

Oh I know, that was the point, that particular juxtaposition about approximates every Marks and Spencers food advert I have ever seen and my consequent reaction.

Being cultured is really just trying to suppress that base level of instinctual feeling, desire or enjoyment in favour of some nice adjectives and wordy statements.

I didn't know who Katy Perry was till about a week or two ago. I didn't know who Ke$ha was (is that how it's really spelled?) till that "Wake up in the morning" Nazi thread was started.

I agree with Gavin. Metal is really no different if you expect people to like it. Perhaps musicians should consider keeping their "art" at home or maybe sharing it with a select few who could appreciate it.

Harry I agree Opeth is really dam talented. The truth is most people can't appreciate a bunch of really talented pirates. Plus a lot of their stuff is what most people would consider stressful.

Hah, don't get me wrong I like my wordy statements, but it's down to expectation and circumstance really isn't it, all I'm saying is embellishment isn't always necessary and sometimes you can just enjoy things for what they are.

However that doesn't mean its not useful to be able to sugar coat things or enjoy extravagances when you want to, one is not really better than the other, although many will have a preference. Maybe pop music is a simple pleasure like fish and chips and classical or metal is a musical extravagance like a good meal in a nice restaurant. Time and a place.
