The Republican National Convention

Here's a question:

Why are Pat Buchanan and Ralph Nader shunned so quickly? Don't you think that since Jimmy Carter, the US populous fell into a rut for simply voting for the obvious choices?

I've read their policies, and I'm not sure why I wouldn't vote for them (other than Nader taking away Democratic votes allowing Bush to be re-elected perhaps).

Simply on paper, these guys have better policies than either Kerry or Bush IMO. I don't hear either Kerry or Bush talking about pulling out of Israel for instance, and certainly Nader's exit plan for Iraq is probably the best policy I've read yet.

I like Pat Buchanan a bit since he pulled away from the traditional Republicans. Nader I don't know that much about, but most of his supporters I talked to are of the "if you disagree with me you're just wrong" variety, and I hate that. I'm borderline treehugger even!

No way this will happen unless the world undergoes radical change.

I believe that the media is partly responsible for third party candidates not being taken seriously and being painted as fringe radicals while some of the platforms of a candidate like Nader are actually closer to the wishes of our citizens than someone like Bush. We're indoctrinated to choose between the lesser of two evils instead of the most qualified person. But I'd mainly credit politicians who are frightened of what would happen if their constituents revolted against the current power structure.

I would, if I trusted the majority of the populace. ;)
