The Subtleties

This is just a silly thing I've noticed...

When I first bought my single "The Reckoning," and after hearing the acoustic version of "When The Eagle Cries," towards the end Ripper sings 'They've only made us stronger' before a really high note at the end. It just felt like part of the song, nothing all that special.

But after listening to THE GLORIOUS BURDEN's version of "When The Eagle Cries," after Jim Morris' beautiful solo, they ride the chorus for a while, somewhat slower than the acoustic. Then after that part, Ripper belts out 'THEY'VE ONLY MADE US STRONGER!' and it sounds so, well, glorious. One of the many moments that do that to me during THE GLORIOUS BURDEN, the Metal Album Of The Year...

I like both versions, but I think the unplugged version sounds more emotional. However the solo on the electric version rocks harder.

They could release a whole album of past ballads resung by Ripper (and new ballads) and I would buy it...
