Does anyone really like this song? Would you really care if you never heard it again for the rest of your life? I for one am thoroughly bored with this song in any version anywhere. What's your opinion?

It is a great song and I do like it, but I would choose to hear others over that one. Of course in concert, they always have to play "the hits" so we will always hear it. Personally two songs that I find myself thoroughly bored with when seeing live are Fear Of The Dark and Metallica's One. They are both quite long songs and I have heard them a billion and one times so I always find myself a little bored during those songs, no matter who plays them, be it the real thing or a tribute act.

I say, keep "The Trooper"! It's one of the classics, and is also most identifiable with Iron Maiden. Ya gotta have "The Trooper", man!

That's funny Metalicat that you've seen Metallica THAT much where you actually got sick of One. DO you at least like the beginning to Fear of the Dark before the lyrics come in?

I never liked The Trooper. The song really goes nowhere. The guitar melodies I found annoying. Identifiable or not, if the song blows, replace it with something else. I am just curious if anyone else here feels this way? Maybe I'm the only one who never wants to hear it again.

It wasn't really from seeing them live, it was just vastly overplayed for me. I still enjoy songs like Enter Sandman and Sad But True live because of the reaction it gets from the crowd. I've heard those ones many more times than One.

I like both songs, they are both great - I'm just a bit bored of them. Nothing to do with not liking them but the only time I will listen to them is if I'm seeing the band live or playing them on guitar. I wouldn't conciously go and put it on to listen to.

I still like Sad But True, but you actually like Enter Sandman?

I don't understand bands like Iron Maiden, that record all these incredible songs over the years, and keep playing virtually the same stuff over and over again. I would think for the band's sanity's sake, they would want to keep bringing out new stuff. Like when Steve Harris saw The Iron Maidens in Mexico and he commented on Alexander the Great, "Still doesn't make me want to do it live." Uh, why not dude? Is it painful for you?

I'll never understand how a band can play the same setlist every night for 18 months. Then next tour, do almost the same thing. Springsteen, Grateful Dead, Radhiohead, are 3 of the few bands I know of that don't actually play the same setlist every night. I mean lots of bands will alter a song or two, but I mean for the most part.

I guess bands feel the new album songs is their new addition to the setlist, and fill the rest with classics.

Actually, I think the Grateful Dead said, since they never played the same setlist twice in their entire 30 year span, they actually got sick of almost all their songs, because so many were in rotation.

I didn't realize the crowd goes wild over it still. When The Black Album came out, I just assumed Metallica wasn't metal anymore. Kind of put them in the category with glam rock. Funny how different times create different things for different people. I never cared much for genres anyway. I just like what I like. Who cares if its Metal or hard rock or whatever. Besides a few songs here and there, I never got beyond Lightning, Puppets, and Justice. That must sound really stupid to a hardcore Metallica fan.

It's their biggest hit - it's the one that the casual fans pay to see. They'll stand still with a blank expression on their face when the band plays Dyers Eve or Trapped Under Ice, but will go nuts when they play Sandman, Sad, Nothing etc.

It's all opinion - you can't argue with someone's opinion. One person's favourite song another person will absolutely detest. "One man's fun is another's hell..." as Hetfield put it so it's not stupid or hard for me to understand that. I hear it all the time.

Yeah thats true. I would have thought by now, most of the crowd at the shows would have known most of the old Metallica too.

The only time I saw them was at The Filmore for that rehearsal with the new bassist, I forgot his name, and it was mostly old stuff with a bit of new. No Enter Sandman but they did play Sad But True.

Whats interesting about Metallica, is you can hear them on the Classic Rock station, the new modern rock station and the metal station.

There is usually three types of people I see at the shows. The old school metalheads from the 80's, the hardcore tour crowd that I see absolutely everywhere and families where the mum/dad is taking their kids to the show. At the end of the day, it's just a great atmosphere having the energy from the younger people (listen to me, talking like I'm 60!) upfront headbanging and pumping their fists in the air and the old school who stay neaerer the back and sing along to every word. Best of both worlds! I am never happier than when I'm at a Metallica show - I just have a permanent grin on my face the whole time. :D

I been out of Iron Maidens commission for some time. Key Club show brought me back.

So can Jenna drink like a true Scot?

Really you don't drink? Guess you can't trust sterotypes. I always said the Koreans drink more than the Scottish anyway.

Too bad I didn't get to hang out with you. Did you see any shows? Disneyland? I been to Disneyland like 4 times this summer. I am beginning to think that place is one huge black magic ritual.

Yep!! I'm a bit "unique" shall we say!! Haha!

Maybe in December - am heading to Sacramento for a Metallica show there. :kickass:

I did!! I went to the Michelle Meldrum show at the Whisky where I got to see the Maidens (FINALLY!!!!!!!!) and Phantom Blue perform and then I also got to go and see Damage Inc play in Indio and they were incredible!!! I had such a blast hanging out with them too, they are all such lovely people. :D

Didn't go to Disneyland as it was a bit on the expensive side but we did go to Universal Studios and that was a riot!!! :headbang: Great day that was!!

So maybe when you go to Sacramento, you can take a trip to San Francisco. In Marin you can go see some Redwood Tress too, which is California at its finest.
