Think I really screwed up? external HD advice....

I have a bunch of files on my WD external HD in Windows format(Fat32) but I can dual boot with Mac also...I went into time machine by accident(not knowing much about it) and it looks like it I erased all of my files for Windows and backed up all of my OSX files....did I just erase them permanently??

It shouldn't erase anything without asking you, unless you've set it up that way. I have an external that I use for both Time Machine and backuping my other external. I don't know what happens if the external runs out of space, but at the moment it still has several hundred GBs of free space.

How large exactly is your external HD? Ought to be pretty small if an OSX backup takes all of its space...
