This is fucked!!!!!

Hard to give people the "correct" punishment when they commit crimes abroad. If they go ahead the Singapore - Aussie relationships will be sour for quite some time. On the other hand there are people in Australia that think this is the right thing to do too.

Yeah it is fucked, its been big news here the last few weeks and now theirs this controversy over our Prime Minister attending a cricket game today the same day this guy gets executed. Why shouldnt he attend the game, this guy knew the price if he got caught drug trafficking. Why was he smuggling drugs in the first place?

If you go to a country where the punishment for smuggling drugs is death you must decide if that's a risk you want to take. This guy did, and then got caught. Live by the sword and all that.

Generally speaking I´m against death penalty for various reasons. But the guy knew the risk he took.

I'm against the death penalty in almost all cases.

However, this guy was smuggling Heroin. Some of us on this board may know people that are or have been on Heroin, and the ruinous effects it has on their and their loved ones lives. Some others, like me, may also know people that Heroin has killed.

So, I'm afraid, no matter how much the guy has changed, it's hard to sympathise too much.

Nope, no sympathy from me. I lost my brother-in-law to that garbage and have no respect or sympathy for anyone who sells or gets caught selling that poison to others.

I just think hanging the guy over that is a little extreme. Life in prison maybe, but death by hanging?
I dunno what their prisons are like, but here in Blighty our crooks get Xboxes, field trips, flatwidefatHDscreen TV,DVD players and similar crap.
Punishment is punishment. Its there to stop you breakin' the law (breakin' the law!:headbang: ).If you know whats gonna happen if you get caught but do it anyway, its asking for it

While he's swinging, he isn't dealing.

Harsh, I know.

I'd prefer him to serve life, but their society decrees that the sentance of death for the crime. It's no great secret either - so the guy knew the risks, and took them anyway.

it's a little like jumping out of an aeroplane without having checked your parachute - you can't complain too much if your chute fails to open...

depends how far your falling, and if you have a pen or paper in that empty backpack, and if you can write a coherent and formal letter falling at xxxmiles an hour,AND then sign it before you touch concrete.:Spin: good luck!

I try to look at things from more then one angle, but this is still ridiculous.

1. Yes, the guy should have weighed his risks before visiting a different country.

2. If we had harsher punishments in America, we would have less problems.

BUT looking at it from the other side;

1. Singapore seems like they are just trying to proove something here. Killing this person will not set an example for their country, because the guy is from Australia. Stop being a stuborn dick, Singapore.

2. This guy was trying to leave the country with those drugs. He was taking those drugs out of the country. It's not like he was dealing inside Singapore. Is drug Trafficing bad, absolutley. But they make him out to be some sort of Singapore Drug Lord, and he's not. They should be more concerned with where the drugs came from and who is selling them to these tourist.

3. Hanged? He has to be hanged? WTF kind of sick country is this? They can't do a firing squad or lethal injection or anything that will be quick for him? No, he has to be hung, and I'm sure there will probably be a bunch of people watching. What an asshole of a country.

I'm sure we have all seen the movie Midnight express......... wasn't that the true story of Oliver Stone??????

So if the punishment for chewing gum is death, then it's ok to kill people for chewing gum? I'm not understanding why it's ok to execute people as long as they say in advance it's ok to execute people.
