Ok, what is 'teh win'? Where'd that come from? I've heard that several times now.

Oh, anyone on the John Petrucci forum, I'm Yontrop there. :)

Sorry for wasting everyone's time. I decided to finally sign up here to show how much of an Opeth nut I am.

even though this IS in the wrong part of the forum, does anyone know the answer to the question?

i guess its like a "cool"

like "BLACK ROSE IMMORTAL= TEH WIN!"

i dunno... i think its funny to use... also TEH SUCK

oh and you didn't know... its purposely mispelling "the" and making it "teh"

actually, you want to know where it comes from? a while back, there was a HUGE wait for the unreal tournament 2003 demo. On the official boards, a thread called 'I am about to join them' was started showing pictures of protestors holding signs saying 'we want the demo' or something. The thread refused to die and there were thousands upon thousands of these pictures. some incredibly funny. Anyway, someone posted a picture with the words 'give us teh demo' written on, purely by accident. Then suddenly everyone was using it for each of their own pics - 'teh' was suddenly being used everywhere.

Interestingly, when the demo finally came out, the surge to download it was so huge that the internet actually broke. No joke, the traffic built up on so many fileservers worldwide that the internet came to a complete standstill.

Then everyone played it for twenty minutes, went back on the official forums and bitched about it.

Can't win 'em all.

it was a god damned hilarious time on that board actually, the head honcho at epic (mark rein I believe he was called) had a baby, and hundreds of people complained because he took time off to be at home instead of working on 'teh demo' lol.

it's a common typo.. I don't know if the Opeth forum got it from the Unreal thingy or not but we use typos a lot just for fun...

recently I've noticed people saying that things pwn other things.. clearly a pun at own :p

its a common typo but I'm sure the 'teh suck, teh win etc originated from the unreal board... that board had literally hundreds of thousands of members all using it, I'm sure it spread from there.

Ok... l337 5p33k, I know this one. I'll make it short.

Back in the day, when modems were first created, people created servers and other internet crap for businesses. Hackers found them out a while after the internet's "invention", and hacked these places. The servers eventually made this filter security device where it started blocking certain characters of the alphabet from foreign intruders, therefore hackers can't leave wierd messages behind when they hack something. The hackers found out that the numbers weren't blocked, so they eventually started using numbers to form words, so l337 h4x0r 5p33k means "Elite Hacker Speak".

It evolved from there into a common communication, and to make it more shorthand. "y u r l8" means "Why are you late?"... this is also l337.

There you have it.
