I woke up Thursday to find that the local mall was burning down by a homeless, mentally distressed 23 year old who had set fire earlier that day to a Wallmart down the street from where I live. My father actually claims to have seen the man talking to himself outside a grocery store on our block in between the fires.
The Galleria is a 1.5 Million square feet mall with over 250 stores. Many employees are now out of jobs leaving 20 stores completely burned down and million of dollars in damages. The police and fire department delayed the fight due to the fact that they believed the suspect had explosives, which is what has sparked the investigation by the ATF. Someone in the local police and fire department fucked up which enabled the situation to get as bad as it did, which is why the ATF is there. They are not allowing anyone free in the mall without ATF escort, including local authorities. The Investigation team consists of the same investigators for the Oklahoma bombing.
When the fires where still happening, I was already to sign up to volunteer cleanup. Then yesterday, the ATF began an investigation and called for the hiring of a clean up crew. So I signed myself up today, in hopes to do my part and help out the community, and get the jobs back that where lost, while managing to get a job myself since I have been unemployed for over a year now. So for the next month or two, I am now employed as part of the clean up crew that will be working as assistance for the ATF cleanup and investigation. Extremely long overtime hours with decent pay, and even though I wanted to volunteer and help out my community, I now just may have the funds for an Uberkab and then some
