Funny, I saw this at a recruiting conference I attended in September. Some interesting stuff. Though some of it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
When I first got online there were merely millions of Web pages. I don't work for a techie company, but my job and that of my department (sourcing) is almost 100% using the Internet to find people and data. What's amazing to me is how many people think they're so "plugged in" and yet, how few people even use much of the terminology right--I fight a constant battle about what certain terms mean, like SEO. It gets very confusing when people are talking about "the same thing" only they're not.
Yep, makes sense. That stat represents the percentage of the country that is Wi-Fi hotspot-accessible, and ya gotta figure that large swathes of Bermuda, since it's a tourist destination, are accessible.
That was a pretty neat presentation. The bit about the supercomputer freaked me out just a little, though.
Let's hope when supercomputers DO become self-aware, that they remember us with fondness, a la Mycroft Holmes from The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress rather than resentment, like SkyNet from Terminator.
