This makes me happy I'm into technology.

Funny, I saw this at a recruiting conference I attended in September. Some interesting stuff. Though some of it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

When I first got online there were merely millions of Web pages. :P I don't work for a techie company, but my job and that of my department (sourcing) is almost 100% using the Internet to find people and data. What's amazing to me is how many people think they're so "plugged in" and yet, how few people even use much of the terminology right--I fight a constant battle about what certain terms mean, like SEO. It gets very confusing when people are talking about "the same thing" only they're not. :P

You also have to realize that for every acronym, there's about 4 different definitions based on which area of technology you work for. ;)

I think my favorite was the TWAIN scanner interface: Technology Without An Interesting Name. :)

Bermuda, huh?

Yep, makes sense. That stat represents the percentage of the country that is Wi-Fi hotspot-accessible, and ya gotta figure that large swathes of Bermuda, since it's a tourist destination, are accessible.

That was a pretty neat presentation. The bit about the supercomputer freaked me out just a little, though.

+1

Let's hope when supercomputers DO become self-aware, that they remember us with fondness, a la Mycroft Holmes from The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress rather than resentment, like SkyNet from Terminator. :ill::lol:

Oh, I'm talking about simple stuff like "the Web" and "the Internet" too.

(and never mind that no one capitalizes weither of them anymore, though they ARE indeed proper nouns... *grr*)

Check out this little guy: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/08/080813175509.htm Saw this on the Science Channel the other day and, while it's cool, I think it spooked me a little.

You have no mouth to speak with my son...

Lol! I hadn't heard that before.

There's a reason I'm a Microsoft lover and whore. I hope to secure a seat of power after welcoming our new technology based overlords.

oh, I see. Like, "The Modem" or "The Hard Drive" or "The CD Drive" instead of the Tower, and "The Computer" instead of the Monitor.
