So I got accepted into vocational school for music technology

THE BLACK WIZARDS
Which I think is pretty cool, since I was sure I wouldn't be chosen. There's only a couple students accepted yearly for the music technology side (this year it was 5, IIRC last year it was 2 or 3). This was also my second time trying to get in BTW.

I applied into university as well, but the tests didn't go too well, and I'm pretty sure I won't get accepted this year. So I guess I'll be spending my next year learning to record properly.

I already spent a year working at the school as my civilian service (which finally ended on thursday :kickass:), which I guess is kind of funny. So I know everyone there already, all the gear they have and so on.

So obviously I'm pretty happy right now! I was afraid that I'd not get accepted anywhere, so it's a huge relief that I got in.

For the Finnish guys, the school I got accepted into is Pop & Jazz konservatorio here in Arabia, Helsinki.

Congratulations! It's allways cool to be chosen when you didn't expect it, especially when it's someting you really want to do!

Good luck!

Congrats! Take advantage of any opportunities that you can...even if that means doing bitch work around the schools studio when there is nothing going on. I will definitely miss being in the studio at school. No more Duality :(

Congrats! I'm studying audio production at the moment, and while there is some really useful and cool stuff there, it gets really frustrating at times. So don't lose your interest if things start a bit slow :)

And one important tip: Do not get drunk with your one of your teachers. There's nothing like getting told by your drunk teacher that a) you're purely technically talented and have no artistic talent whatsoever b) you will never get a job in the music biz c) in the end, you're just a pompous shithead  Damn near punched the guy in the face, gladly the other students threw him out of the party before that.

Why didn't you apply to Piramk in Virrat? ;) I can really say that moving 300km to here was really worth it. But congratz, it's a good school.

Well, mainly the 300km distance  and I've got all my bands etc. here in Helsinki. I've heard a lot of good things about the place though.

Yeah, I'm prepared for that. I still hope that they won't start from the very basics, as they require some amount of experience to get in anyway.

Hopefully it won't happen too soon  there's a couple teachers there that are very cool. Some of my friends study there though, and they've said that there's a great amount of drinking involved in the school's activities

Jesus dude, what a fucking prick - how old was this guy?

Congrats!! That sounds like a pretty cool thing. :headbang:
What types of courses/specialisations do they offer at that school you will attend? Does it have a good reputation where you come from?
Just know about vocational schools here in America, some have a pretty bad reputations but with others you can really consider yourself a lucky kid being accepted.

As they say sometimes...."Those who cannot do, teach"

I don't yet know what kind of courses I'll be having, but I'm pretty sure I'll get guitar lessons and theory lessons etc. and on top of that, mixing and so on. I really don't know what to expect from the recording stuff I'll be learning there. Of course, as I used to work there, I know the studios and classes, but I don't have any idea what kind of stuff goes on in them during schooldays. There's basically two "specialisations" or lines (I don't know what the correct term is for them in the Finnish vocational school system), "musician" and "music technology and instrument tech", I'm not sure about what the "instrument tech" stands for; I've friends who've studied there, and no one has ever mentioned anything about those kind of studies/lessons. I imagine it's basically stuff that everyone doing AE, FOH etc. stuff should know, like soldering XLR cables and fixing broken wirings on SM58's and so on.

Yeah, it's the same with vocational schools here. Some (well, probably most actually) are basically for those who have such lousy grades that they cannot get into upper secondary school, and they teach jobs like plumbing, repairing cars, painting and so on. Many are also really easy to get into, as in they do not require any previous knowledge or skills of the career you're going study, and aren't interested in grades from lower secondary school, so you just need to have passed it.

The school I got into is quite different, since about 90% of the students have already attended (and probably finished) upper secondary school. It has two tests, the first one is a "pre test" (dunno what to call it), and if you pass that, you get accepted to the "real tests". The amount of people that get in is pretty small too (e.g. just 5 people got in this year for music technology).

I'm not too sure about how the "ordinary" vocational schools are truly like, I'm just saying what I've heard. So what I'm saying might not be completely accurate...

Pretty exciting, school starts tomorrow. I don't remember if I'd mentioned it or not, but I've had a two year break from being in school, because after I'd finished upper secondary school, I didn't know what I wanted to do yet, so I only applied to a couple places, and didn't get accepted into any of them. I spent most of that year working at grocery stores and gas stations as a cashier, and that sucked a lot. And last year I had to spend doing civilian service because of conscription, which also pretty much sucked. So I'm definately looking forward to being a student again!

I wish you the best and that you will have a great time there! Make lots and lots of contacts and get your foot, nose, hands, and other body parts in through various doors, openings and any orifices ... including human ones! :D

Edit: I'm not even sure myself, of what it is that I'm talking about here...

Starting school in audio engineering too in 2 days...well it's not really audio engineering, it's called ''Création et montage sonore'', which could be translated as '' creation and audio sequencing''. Really looking forward. I don't know how I'll do to wake up at 7 am considering I went to bed a 5am all summer haha

Haha, me too, except usually 6AM or even 7AM :erk: luckily the school starts at 10AM so I can wake up at about 8:30 or so.

It's still going to be hard, considering I woke up today at about 4:30PM
