this time tomorrow...

I saw them in Philly last Friday, and it was a great show. I missed half of Evergrey, becuase they went on as SOON as the doors opened, and I was still in a line two blocks long. I've heard other cities mention things like this too.

Creeps, I suggest you get there early if you want to see EG. As for Iced Earth, Ripper has an amazing live voice. I saw him with Priest, but I was far more impressed with his performance here. Some of those screams . . . you just wind up shaking your head and picking up your jaw. Just amazing. Have fun !

i'm contemplating going to the iced earth show in new orleans this friday... but i'm not a huge fan of ripper (i wish barlow was still singing). i've seen CoB live before and wasn't too impressed. the only reason i'd be going is for evergrey.

ha no kiddin! I used to go to the Art Institute in Ft lauderdale.

We have reserved seats and we'll be at the venue area early enough to ensure we get in right after doors open.

I saw Ripper with Priest and I like him. The live in London Priest dvd is great and worth picking up if you're a fan.. lots of soundcheck stuff and interesting things on it as well.

Great show in Atlanta last night, too. Iced Earth drew a few more than CoB, but CoB's crowd was more "intense." Evergrey went on a half-hour after doors opened, so no worries there -- and a good thing, as a friend o' mine from Tennessee came down mostly to see Evergrey and was toward the back of the line. Evergrey's new CD is selling out regularly at tour-stops, so they're making some friends on this tour, and hanging out in the venue chatting with fans after their set (as CoB did also) helps, too.

We had a special guest appearance from Glenn, too. :D

Having seen CoB with nevermore and Dimmu earlier and being horribly disappointed, I was expecting them to get blown off the stage from both directions that night, but quite the opposite happened. they were amazing. I was totally astoundedl; it was like watching a completely different band. Evergrey was great but CoB really stepped it up to a level that I don't think Iced Earth managed to come close to during their set, which i had multiple unfortunate problems during and with. (personally, i was about to collapse i was so tired, my shoulder was killing me, and i was starving, and otherwise i also was disappointed greatly with Ripper's stage presence having seen him be an great frontman for priest a year or so ago, i thought that he failed to fill barlowe's shoes on some of the more emotional stuff (my opinon i guess), didn't like their setlist choices for the most part (also my opinon), and found out after moving around during the encore that i was standing in the worst possible spot in the masquerade for sound during most of the set... so, yeah, i was disappointed to say the least.)

Yeah, that's how I felt, too. I think it was partly IE's setlist choice; there was lots of slow-tempo stuff there.

Oddly, CoB didn't play an all-fast setlist; I was surprised (and pleased) to hear "Angels Don't Kill," which is a slower-tempo song from Hatecrew Deathroll.

I was front-row-center and getting squished during their entire set; luckily it wasn't quite as bad during Iced Earth, but I bugged out after the first two songs. Pics are posted on my site; I got a lot. :)

http://66.193.230.227/~paulcas/eg-cob/dcp05512.jpg -- that one's kinda neet, as I had to elevate the camera, widen the field and take it down-angle without aiming, all while Alexi was playing on the floor. (!)

Where were you standing? The Masquerade isn't known for great sound at the best of times.

BTW, nice to meet ya at the show. :)

Yeah, i really wasn't thrilled with the setlist, as i said. i had tons of songs i wanted to hear going in, and the only two they played off my "must-hear" list were Angel's Holocaust and Dracula. They also played nearly every damn song off of The Glorious Burden EXCEPT The Reckoning, which is by far my favorite from the album.

I was smashed to the front, a little to the right of center where you were.
Oh, and this problem was only really pronounced during Iced Earth. CoB and Evergrey had low vocals, but during Iced Earth all i was getting was drums and severely muffled versions of everything else. It wasn't until i finally moved that i realized that was a localized problem.

Wow, you're right, they didn't play it, and it was "the radio single" -- which means diddly for prog/power bands in general, but it's the song from Glorious Burden we played first (and most often) on WREKage. We played it earlier tonight and I was thinking "y'know, I don't remember them playing this."

^^^ Bah, once again reminds me of the whole "Well make a single but not play it" syndrome sweeping bands lately. Helloween doesnt play Just a Little Sign, Edguy doenst play All the Clowns (they made a vid for this too) and now Iced Earth isnt playing The Reckoning. In Helloweens case Andi told me that it just sounds like ass live, maybe thats how the REckoning comes off as when its live too.

That was my assumption, given how many vocal tracks are in that song. but still, it remains by far my favorite on the album musically as well, and I wish they had figured out how to play it.

Just to complete your theory: In the Dark Ride tour, Helloween played the album almost entirely, but didn't play If I could Fly, the single! LOL I don't know it the entire tour was like that, but in neither shows I went to they played it...
