Thoughts on new Coheed and Cambria?

Are we talking about their initial indie release? If so you're crazy if you think you can find them there. I certainly have never seen it there, nor have I on Amazon and the like.

Second Stage Turbine Blade, yes. Everything before that was released under the name Shabutie. It's not even really an indie since Equal Vision is a fairly big label.

I got mine at a Walmart. I've seen it there (obviously), Best Buy, etc... He's most definitely not crazy.

Okay. Figured we were talking about different things. I thought you were talking about that ep or whatever they put out before Second Stage.

I'm basically just going to start at the second release and move my way forward. :kickass:

i would definitely not overlook the debut album, second stage turbine blade, as it is all part of their puzzle which they have been building since the beginning.

i saw them twice touring in support of it and they were amazing back then. it was on this album that they built would eventually become their huge following. it wasn't until later that the prog/metal community came aboard simply because of the label they were on back then. which was predominantly hardcore and indie rock stuff.

The only CD I have by them is "In Keeping Secrets", and thought that even though the musicianship was great it was rather boring. Did I start with a bad album, or are they just not for me?
Hmmmm....?

Try Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV. That's how I started and I love the band. I don't find it boring, but I find In Keeping Secrets much inferior to Good Apollo.

Your problem is the same problem I have with the band Between The Buried And Me. Good musicians. Super boring music. Nothing sticks to your mind, there are no hooks and nothing is really memorable. At some point, being technical and writing crazy music doesn't really mean shit.

It's funny, because I feel exactly the opposite. In Keeping Secrets is easily my favorite album of theirs. To me, it has by far the most hooks and is the most memorable of all their albums. Good Apollo Vol. 1, meanwhile, I find to be their most mundane and unlistenable album (with the exception of The Suffering, which is my favorite song by them).

Like someone earlier in the thread said, no band divides their own fans as sharply as Coheed and Cambria.

It is hard to say what I like best. The first stuff I heard was off of "In Keeping Secrets..." (Back when XM did progressive rock), but the first album I picked up was "Good Apollo...". I didn't actually pick up "In Keeping Secrets..." until after the two after that.

The one I'm least familiar with is "Second Stage Turbine Blade", since I only have that as MP3s and I can't listen to it at work.

Milton, I mean this in the most loving way possible, but I think your ears are broken. :)

One of Coheed's biggest elements for me is their ability to write hooks and memorable melodies. I also think IKSSE was the pinnacle of their hookwriting; it by far had the most melodically poppy elements when compared to their other albums.
