I think it's safe to say that anybody who's lurking and happens to be looking for something that isn't already posted will go ahead and join. It appears to happen quite often.

I can't say that I understand what you're encouraging.

He just feels that there are people lurking that may have things to offer many of us here, which I totally get since I want to learn everything I can from anyone willing to teach or share.
I know that some people who are just hobbyists, non professionals, are intimidated about posting by all of the pros on the board. They may not have much to offer to the pros but may to others, even if it's just inspiration stemming from the result of great mixes and/or songs. ;)

Metal of course. :)

Although I am technically registered to this forum I have never posted for basically the reasons Radd mentions in his post above. For me personally, there is an intimidation factor for a hobbyist like me, which I admit is probably all in my head, but it is there anyways and therefore I just "lurk and learn". However, after emailing back and forth with Radd, he has encouraged me to post regardless of my skill level so I thought I'd start with this post and go from there.

I'd also like to say this is a great forum with people who truly seem to be dedicated to their craft, and for me the intimidation factor comes more from my inexperience and/or lack of decent equipment than is does from the people who post on this site since most people seem very helpful to those who are new to recording.

Don't be intimidated, I have shit equipment, very little experience, and very little talent, my mixes are nothing special in the slightest. But I put myself out there and I'm slowly learning (very slowly!).

+1 Same here.

If some of you's knew what i worked with, i'd be shunned!

Welcome Tom! Glad to see that you've joined us. :kickass:

Yeah, just take it one step at a time.
If at some point for some reason it doesn't work out for you, you can always go back to lurking, right? Hopefully that won't happen though.

By the way, your stuff sounds like it needs some room treatment and a descent pair of monitors.   (inside joke that I think everyone can figure out) :heh:

Edit:
Hey, I recruited one! Do I get a free Backstage Productions T-shirt or something?
No seriously, do I?

Hey Tom,
What synth is that? Like the plucked strings sounds & bell & choir & female voice? In Anneliese & In Solitude. Sounds great. I love it.

Hey Radd,

Thanks for the synth comments. This is all from memory but the intro to In Solitude uses two FM7 patches (can't recall their names) and Anneliese uses Sampletank with a Harp sample and a free ST sample called Soprano Ahh. I just put in some very basic midi notes into cubase for the melodies, dumped them out to 24bit wavs and then imported them into my final mix tracks. Since I have very limited ram, I usually work on the keys on their own, get them how I want them and then make a wav and drop them into the tunes so I don't have to keep the VST synth open.

Awesome. I'm checking out Sampletank now. I noticed it has piano. From the tiny bit that I've heard on the site, it doesn't sound that bad but it's a bit hard to tell really.
I just recently learned that I also have to close programs in order for things to run more smoothly.
What about that bell in Anneliese? Where's that from?
