Tonight on "anything is better than TV".... buddies birthday party! :kickass:

lastnight on "anything is better than TV"... A Game of Throne.. solid reading material.

it's not bad, and that one slut on there makes it a little easier to watch, but I tire of shows about the vanity of people.

Give me Rescue Me or The Shield. Still, at least FX actually takes risk with their shows like the three mentioned. No other network would dare touch those shows.

The Shield is the best show on TV.

I prefer Nip/Tuck over Rescue Me, but only because the writing is simply stronger. Lost is great, too, but there isn't much more than that I'm willing to watch. Maybe Prison Break & 24, too.

I am really engrossed in Lost. There's a couple more episodes left of the first season at the moment in the UK, should be good to see what's still to come!

On the subject of American TV, two US "sitcoms" they've started showing on UK TV recently are "Just Shoot Me" and "Everybody Loves Raymond". WHAT IN THE NAME OF GOD IS FUNNY ABOUT THOSE TWO SHOWS?! The former is seriously the least funny show I've ever seen. The latter has its moments, but apparently that guy gets paid over $1m per show. WTF?!

Lost is only in season 1 in the UK? So I guess you don't want me to tell you what happens then?

As for "Just Shoot Me," well that's a fairly dated show now (hasn't been on in at least 5 years), and I never got what was so funny about "Raymond" either.

Haha no! And if you do, then I'll have to ruin it for my girlfriend too and she'll be REALLY angry.

Boon has just died, that's where we're up to. How many seasons are there? I just assumed at the start it would be a 1 season thing.

We're in the middle of the 2nd season right now, and it just keeps getting better! The writers said all along they outlined a rough sketch for a 4-5 year long series, and since ratings in the U.S. are still sky-high (26 million viewers weekly), they should get there with ease. I don't see the series going beyond that at all, since it's not going to be easy to stretch out the story that long IMO.

But yeah, if you're at Boone's death, there's only a few more to go. But they're good 'uns. :tickled:

i tried watching Lost. people get shipwrecked on tropical island, people find monster and polar bears on said tropical island, people find hidden underground lair in tropical island, a handicapped man can suddenly walk after crashing on tropical island

this show makes no sense. it's at the intelligence level of The OC. hell, Lost might as well be on The WB.

Amazingly, you managed to be 0% correct. I mean, usually when people are slagging shit they don't care for, they'll hit at least a single nail on the head. But you've got 2 hands full of broken fingers instead!

and are you saying that the Party of Five dork and the former-wheelchair guy, the fat fuck and that chick don't find an underground tunnel? and blow it up with explosives? man, what show was I watching?

and there is no monster/dinosaur thing that eats people?

EDIT: granted I haven't watched it in a long time because I can waste an hour watching much better stuff, so the dinosaur angle might have been explained

I'm not going to go into any details, b/c poor Doom up there would prefer this remain spoiler-free I imagine, but let it suffice to say that unless you watch week-in, week-out, you'll never ever in 1,000,000 years understand the complexity of what's going on in the show.

From your posts it seems as if you've seen brief snippets in an out-of-order collage or something.

yep pretty much. i'll catch a little then watch something better or get on the 'puter, play games, listen to music, flip back and see some dumb bitch kidnap a kid and Hobbit boy goes a'chasin. and then i'll see a bunch of flashbacks like the bald guy being told he can't go on some damn tour journey hike and then, by the GRACE OF GOD, he can walk after the plane crashes.

it seems it might be alright, but like 24, I just ain't got the time and the right schedule.

Yeah, you're completely missing the genius of the show. Every single little thing that happens, happens for a reason. There isn't one second of wasted footage (at least thus far), so if you take even a minimally casual approach to it, fuhgeddabouddit.

I'll say this: the first two episodes of Lost (season 1) are some of the best TV I've ever seen.

No wonder they went after JJ Abrams to direct Mission Impossible 3. I think he's about to become the highest paid writer in movie history. But just look at how many Emmy's the show won -- his resume is set for life.

I missed most of season 1 when it was on TV but was so blown away by what little I did see, I went and bought the DVD boxset and watched the entire season.

Yep, every minute detail.

Did you ever notice the hockey team at Sydney airport? Their numbers on the back of their shirts....? You can guess the rest.

I think that the idea of it being a government experiment is too simple. I mean, the numbers alone transcend man-made conspiracy.
