I can see why JayKeeley would give this album Empyrium's only non-10/10 rating, too many fookin' keyboards!!!

I like the CD anyhow, but the keyboards drown out too much of the good stuff. Where at Night the Woodgrouse Plays is my favorite Empyrium, as it were. Positively beautiful.

weiland is without doubt the best of their works, but the keyboards don't bother me on wintersunset, if there's anything to complain over it would be the singing which can be a bit weak at times; in other words: 9/10 :D

I don't think it's easy to say which Empyrium record is the best outright since they had two phases, right?

I would say, in phase A (DARK METAL), it would be Songs of Moors and Misty Fields. For the love of goat, this is *probably* in my top 10 of all time.

Phase B (DARK FOLK) would be Weiland. It has to be just for the strings section on the "Waldpoesie" chapter alone, track #7. I've yet to hear anything more sorrowful anywhere else except maybe Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. (You know, the music they used on Platoon and The Elephant Man).

I'm glad to know that the first result on Google for "gayboards" is this thread.

Anyhow, I sold this album years ago and recently repurchased it. It's not bad at all, pretty decent. A precursor to future triumphs, but not a bad album.

Songs of Moors and Misty Fields is their best, I realized that a few years ago and stand by that.

Just get their retrospective collection digibook from the end for $12. Hardcover with 48 page booklet detailing the bands story. Half of it is the german version though.

Is this band any good?

Get Songs of Moors and Misty Field now. Best album ever.

A precursor to future triumphs

Pretty much I guess. Although I do still think this album is really, really good, but it's certainly not as well done as any of their other albums. You can kind of tell it's a debut album. "Ordain'd to Thee" is one of their best tracks though.

NAD - you MUST check out the version of "Fraconian Woods..." on the retrospective. It is stunning. If they re-did the whole album in that fashion it would be jizz inducing.

Also, as a side note, last night I walked home in the dark listening to "Die Schwane Im Schilf" and felt both scared and sorrowful at the same time! Ahh such is the magic of Weiland.

I did, yesterday. It kicked ass. :Spin:

I was quite impressed with A Wintersunset... yesterday, so much that I shall now flick myself in the testicle for selling it to begin with.

Ow.
