Seriously, this lineup sucks so much ass and projects such a crappy image of this country it is not even funny. First they do it in fucking Barrie, like 1h30 hours away from the city (that's gonna be 4 hours away with all the traffic there's gonna be in that Canada day long weekend). And now they book a geriatric lineup of irrelevent old-timers. I didn't expect them to book Arcade Fire or anything but something better would have been interesting. Just like Frank at chromewaves.net said :"Hell, I could have accepted it if they had gotten Nickelback and Avril - certainly not my cup of tea but at least you could rationalize their popularity and global profile. Instead, we get artists who aren't even relevant in Canada anymore, let alone abroad. At this point, it wouldn't shock me if they added Glass Tiger, Honeymoon Suite, Cats Can Fly, The Box... Sigh."
Again, not that it is my cup of tea but the biggest selling band on the bill, after Celine, is mentioned at the end of the press release like another no name (Simple Plan, BTW). Jesus, who are these people booking this? Oh yeah, I know... Michael Cohl. The guy who made one bold move in his career and reaping the benefits ever since (he bought all the rights to the Rolling Stones Steel Wheels tour, which became the most successful in history.)
Critics all over the world said that it was terrible how white the shows were and what they do? An all white lineup (almost, apparently K'naan will be spinning tunes in between acts and before the show). Don't they read the musical press? They added Tegan and Sara to the bill to appease critics that would say that they are "in the know". How lame an attempt is that? K-OS won junos, is black and has a large younger audience, where is he?
Let's just hope somebody falls flat on his face for the entertainment because we won't get much from the bands or the hosts (Dan Aykroyd and Tom Green for crying out loud)
The acts: Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Blue Rodeo, Great Big Sea, Our Lady Peace, African Guitar Summit, Barenaked Ladies, Jan Arden, Bruce Cockburn, Deep Purple, Gordon Lightfoot, Tragically Hip, Tom Cochrane, Motley Crue and Sam Roberts
