damn, new Saxon already? Busy blokes
Hope it's better than Call to Arms. I couldn't get into that one at all. It was far too retro sounding hard rock for me, like the very early Saxon. I hope for a disk in the vein of Lionheart which I think is the best Saxon album for my tastes. Judging by the review the album should be more along those lines.

Lionheart is also one of the very best Saxon releases for me. But I think Calls to Arms was also excellent, yes in a more "retro" way. I'm guessing you'll enjoy the new one from this review and some other stuff I read elsewhere...
To each his own. I'll take "Call to Arms" over "Lionheart" any day. But of the "non-retro" albums, I'll take "Unleash the Beast."
But hey, Saxon has never but out an album I hated. I'm looking forward to hearing this.

It's much better than Call To Arms but the songs didn't seem catchy at all really. However the guitar is just about the best sound EVER. What a colossal sound they've got. I need to play it again bgut I doubt I will get much joy from this album cause the song writing is just a bit bland for me. But boy is that guitar sound something else.
Guardians Of The Tomb is very catchy IMO. I think the whole album is excellent, but yes, the choruses are maybe "simpler" this time, with just the title of the song repeated a few times (Iron Maiden syndrome?). But it's still damn effective. And yes, the guitars rip.
I'll say it again: Saxon is probably the best of the "old" bands and one of the very few whose newer material (as in the last 10-15 years) is just as good (if not better) than the early classics.
I know you won't hear a bad word about Saxon G-man so at least we can agree it's better than the last album hehe!
