Hey all,

The above is a track from my one-man-do-it-all-yourself-project. This song is fast thrash number entitled "Hell On Earth", lyrically it's metaphorical...

I've been lurking and reading on here whilst recording and writing my album for a long while now and would really appeciate some feedback on this - if you fancy a listen?

I'm looking at getting at least a couple of tracks fully ready for promo purposes.

I'm happy to provide any details of the mix if anyone wants them?

Cheers!

Tone could be tighter and scoopier. Vocals could come down a little as well.

There's something about the snare that I don't like. Could be a bit fatter, perhaps? Try compressing it a bit. Drums could use a bit more humanization.

/end overcritical douchebag mode.

This is an awesome song. I always wondered how techy thrash would sound on a 7, and now I know. :D

Thanks for listening!

very old skool fuckin cool! cant say anything i think the mix rules for this style!

Glad you like it man, I'm definitely inspired by old skool!

Hey thanks for the feedback! When you say tighter do you mean more in the picking department or the low mids?

Which drums parts do you feel need more humanization and do ya think some extra low-end on the snare would add fatness?

Glad you like the song!

I've just listened to the mix on a couple of different systems including my car stereo and I'm a tad disappointed. More tweaking needed I think! :hypno:

Hey i'd really really appreciate some more feedback from anyone out there in Sneap forum land! I know there are some great audio engineers and producers on this forum and i'd love to hear from you. What's good? What's bad? Any advice? Is it far off from album ready or is it too amateur sounding? etc

I just shit my pants because of the ridiculous amount of awesome. Seriously.
Totally into that kind of oldshool trash with modern sound. It's cool because its somehow heavy and raw but also clean somehow...fits the song like a glove....

maybe guitars are a tad too much upfront, and the kick seems to get burried at times...
at one point were theres only one guitar on the right the panning (quadtracked or some sort of stereo reverb? dunno...) sounds a bit strange to me...
your vocals like the "peavy wagner" from "Rage" which is cool!

Woud be interested in some details on the guitar man! very cool job!

Picking department. The low end is a tad muddy. It could be your muting technique, but most thrash players tend to have teh awesome mutes.

The fills, mostly. And the kick in general.

Cool song! Guitars seem a little mid-heavy for thrash, vocals sound good though.

Thanks for that, the vocals are recorded with an SM57. I was in Slayer mode so the guitars are a tad middle heavy. Although on the amp, I have them set about 11 o' clock.

Thanks very much for the cool comment dude, it's not the first time I've been told I sound like Peavey actually! Can't beat a bit of RAGE. I've also been told I sound like Cronos and Hetfield too. I was actually aiming for an old school sound to this whole mix but I think I've ended up with it sounding like everything has been low passed a bit too much personally. The guitars are Amplitude 2 with the Sneap Edge impulse (in Boogex), 6 performances in total, 3 either side!

Yeah I know what you mean about the picking department etc, I need to re-check my screamer settings and crank them a bit. I think if I add a bit of multi band on the low end that should tame the muddiness, so I need to try that... Just tried fiddling with the screamer settings and it sounds better although I'm not 100% on the guitar tone actually anymore, I may reamp in future with my actual real amp into some impulses. I can't mic up a cab as it would cause complaints in my neighbourhood! I struggle with humanization on drums at times. I adjust all the velocities and shift some hits off time but it still comes out a bit robot-like.

What amp setup you using on this?

I'm using Amplitude 2 > Overscream pedal > JCM 900 > Voxengo Boogex with Guitarhack's impulses.

Dude, what are you using for drums? I dig the kick alot! Awesome song too btw

Thanks! Drums are Superior Drummer. Just those, no other samples mixed in or anything (In theory, I'm trying to keep things as natural as possible hahahahahahaha! :tickled:)

Dude. Don't change the guitar tone at all. I fucking hate it when people scoop the hell out of the guitars all of the time. I think the tone works really well for this style.

wtf, AT2? Now I'm really impressed haha
Rage is awesome, they also rule live
Yeah maybe the mix is on a bit dark side genenerally, a small high boost on things wouldnt hurt much I guess.
Ah, so it's the 6 performances that distracted me a bit in that part haha
Nothing wrong with it else though!

I like it!!!! I like the rawness! It fits the song greatly! What SD snare did you use?

I'm using the original DFH Superior software, Sonor 1 snare drum dude - glad you liked it!

Yeah I'm kinda on that level too! I never go over 12 o'clock with the mids though - somewhere between 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock is usually my "sweet spot".

awesome :)
superior drummer presets please.

Just to make it clear, I'm using the original DFH Superior, not Superior Drummer 2.0. What preset would you like? The .dfh file, if ya still want it?

Amplitube 2 rocks! I saw RAGE play at Bloodstock this year, got a photo with them to at the Jager bar! Nice guys.

Do you mean the riff near the beginning? I did some automation on the panning on that bit, headed one of the guitars towards the middle so that might sound a bit weird TBH.

I might try tweaking a few things in a day or so that I'm still not 100% happy with. It's all "work in progress" if ya get what I mean hahahaha.

Music is total badassery.
I think the mix only needs a tiny bit of additional clarity (less 400-500hz stuff going on).
Guitars are pretty cool considering it's a sim but a real amp would bring a larger amount of cum in listeners pants imho.
