Treat - Coup De Grace

Vicious Robbie

Faithful Neon Dreamer
Last time I heard about Treat I was listening to their Organized Crime record and thought it was decent but it was no Dreamhunter. After that, the band went off my radar and apparently they reunited after thirteen years to record this album. Time and growing up can make wonders for people and that applies for bands as well. I was caught off guard after I heard this album as I did not expect it to be this good. Yet, it is and it's the best of their career.

The War is Over gets thing moving fast and heavy but the record does not start blowing me away until All In, comes in and gives me that crunchy rock and roll sound with a big chorus. Paper Tiger continues the treatment with a great riff accompanied by the keyboards and another catchy chorus. The record continues down a variety of styles with lots of great tunes like the AOR-dish We Own The Night (this song is infectious) or the heavy and epic Skies of Mongolia. Ballad A Life To Die For is a sure hit for me and it's the only soft song in the album. The rest is just a variety of hard rocking tunes with great choruses and a maturity that logically this band did not possess before. If it took them 20+ years to record a album like this one, believe me it was well worth it. The only song I didn't like was Tangled Up but the rest is rock solid.

The band performs real well, Robert's voice sound real good and Anders Wikstrom has really conjured up a wonderful record here. This is a band that sounds more focused, heavier and smarter then ever before. Fans of the band will no doubt enjoy this album easily. Welcome Back! :headbang:

Previous to talk about the new one, let me start saying that I disagree a little with you, Vicious Robbie, in relation to "Organized crime". Personally, Treat is an overwhelming band, the best among the swedish hard rock and melodic metal bands from 80´s.

For me, the Treat´s holy trinity is composed by "The pleasure principle", "Dreamhunter" and "Organized crime". Maybe "dreamhunter" got more hits but "Organized crime" is a little harder and more consistent with the revamped "Get you on the run" (much better than in "Scratch and bite"), "Conspiracy", "Fatal smile"...

I don´t want to forger their debut "Scratch and bite" and the last one "Treat", this one with Mats Leven on vocals. It seems another band without Robert but it´s very good. (They released "Muscle in motion" in 2001 but it was a mess ´cause it was a "lost" album with Mats Leven but the cover artwork shows the classic line up :erk:)

I got some doubts about "Coup the grace" bur when I listened the album for the first time it was a kind of "Whoooaaa!!! :headbang:". It sounds exactly like it was composed after "Organized crime". We can listen excellent tunes like "The war is over", epic "Skies of Mongolia" or "Paper tiger". Maybe with 2 or 3 songs less it would have been even better but, for me. I´m sure it will be one of the best albums from 2010.

Highly recommended to everyone into melodic scandinavian metal. A must have!

Joder!! Que me han repartido hostia por aca!:lol:

Marco, I do have Organized Crime and it's not a bad record by any means. Hell, just with opener "Ready for the Taking" is a sure winner but I just happen to like Dreamhunter a bit more. The revamped Get you on the Run is also a winner, no doubt. And I'm with you, one of the best melodic bands to ever come out a Sweden, easily! :headbang:
