triggering drums preference

How do you guys prefer to do it? when i started i was using my alesis DM5 module and making my own triggers or buying the ddrum red shots(didnt work too great) now i use logics drum replacer and kontakt for my slate samples, what ways do you use?

have any of you tried to just use your preamps and gate the trigger input until its accurate?

Most people plug their triggers directly into their preamps, track them, and then sample replace with Drumagog or Trigger. There's no need for a gate, just make sure your preamp has a pad, or buy some attenuators because the output of a trigger is quite hot.
