Triple Headliner Guess.

I don't know why you wouldn't see Labyrinth as a repeat? Now I am biased yes I know, they are my fav band, but I don't think anyone can say they didn't put on one hell if a show and definitely deserve to come back! Hey why not them and Vision Divine!

I'm sure Labyrinth was great and..well.. I am biased, since I am friends with the the Aussies, I missed Labyrinth's set...to go to The Vortex with Voyager (and I don't regret that decision at all!)

and YES to Vision Divine!!

You're correct in that WT hasn't answered the phone in the past, but Glenn did say it surprised the hell out of him when a certain band contacted him. That's why I picked WT. It'd be your loss if you left during IE, I know a lot of folks (myself included) would love to see them with Stu. And yes I agree that PM would kick all kinds of major ass just like they always have in the past.

That was my very first thought when Glenn said he was surprised by the contact. I'm still going with them as a maybe, though after further thought, I'm thinking of other bands - too many others. I've always been totally wrong with my guesses, so hard to commit to any, actually.

With that disclaimer, I'll just throw out a guess on Within Temptation, Iced Earth and Pain of Salvation. Not a wish list, just a random guess.

You should have been here last year!

Yea, I totally think VP could be a headliner if there were three, but not thinking it's them, though I'd love it.

Dream Evil certainly would be a surprise...

I think they are on the "when Hell needs a snowblower" list.

They're not fucking Arcturus. Or shit, Nevermore. If they can get a guarantee not to be lazy-asses about their shit, they could be just as big a surprise addition as Sanctuary was. A couple years before they were officially announced, Glenn had said he didn't see them ever playing after their first cancellation.

Regardless, I find it funny how many people just want continuation of the "same old thing" for the headliners. It's got to be frustrating to want to keep the festival fresh and vibrant, yet the core fanbase (the dozens or so here on this forum) keep clamoring for Sabaton, Circus Maximus, Pagan's Mind, and some form of Savatage.

I love all that stuff, but I'd think with a triple headliner, we'd see bands that were a bit different from the last night of PP10.

The "surprised they contacted me band" could be something involving Hansi Kursch, whether Blind Guardian or Demons and Wizards. I'm skeptical of D&W, just because Jon is enjoying such a good run with touring Iced Earth, why relegate to something so many fewer people know? So I'll say Blind Guardian. That would, of course, rule.

It's tough to pick headliners just because all the seemingly top-tier bands of our style have either played before or would likely not play.

So I don't know. If it has to be a repeat headliner, my vote would wholeheartedly go to Amorphis. I thought they were amazing, and they still have a catalog FULL of amazing material.

Even though he's touring, I don't know what kind of headlining stuff he's put together stateside, but it'd be great to see a good, long Devin Townsend set. So that'd be my third pick.

To me, it seems that the idea of a triple headliner means that some of the band members are going to overlap. (Not that I know anything about the finances, so I could be in left field.) Doing that (as we have in bands this year and other years) probably lowers the cost a little bit because there are less bodies to bring over (unless it's a supergroup or something), so it could allow for some bigger acts? Unless their cost per show is just exorbitant...which I'm sure is the case some of the time.

I'm not very good with what members overlap bands, so please forgive me here. But say Within Temptation picked up the phone. What about a Within Temptation / Star One / Threshold or Within Temptation / Ayreon / Threshold.

I'm skeptical that an Arjen supergroup would even be financially and logistically feasible, because in those groups he incorporates so many people. So, let's steer away from that.

Or perhaps Masterplan / Jorn / Threshold.

Is it obvious yet that I reallllllly want Threshold to be one of the headliners?

I don't think that Evergrey will be back next year. Circus Maximus may be, but not as a headliner. Sabaton may be, but I doubt as a headliner.

I'm with whoever said that it's great to have repeats, but one of the best things about ProgPower is the discovery and exposure to and for new bands here in America. I love spending the 360 days that I'm waiting for the next PPUSA to come listening to the bands I've never heard of before. I want to see new acts!

(I'm pushing for Threshold because I missed them in 2007. Not the best reason, but it's my reason)

Most of the time I feel pretty bad (guilty) about making guesses like this. I could never be disappointed with the lineup. I'm just glad we have another year of ProgPower.

This. As much as I'm a fan of these bands I don't want to see bands who have played here within the last 3-5 years for like another 3-5 years at least.

Pretty much why I think these guessing threads are pointless. That and the concept of guessing the lineup is pretty pointless unless its something like getting a free badge or whatever it was last time around.

.

I was trying to stay out of this thread as much as possible, but that quote above is simply illogical. You want me to wait 6-10 years between bringing bands back that were popular at the show and are guaranteed to sell tickets???? There isn't a fucking festival in the world that plays by those rules.

I elevated Edguy to a headline after 2 years and no one complained. These days..everyone complains about everything.

I think everyone here is wrong, and Glenn has a super-surprise that's gonna knock us off our feet Friday night! Look at this year's line up... it's simply badass if you ask me :) Bring the party on - and see you all soon!!

PS. It's gonna be Star One. It has to be lol

I can understand the frustration. At the same time, it is tough to judge when too much is too much. Personally, I don't have an issue bringing back a band after a couple of years, tho sometimes fatigue sets in when you see the same band 3 or 4 times, particularly if you weren't that into them in the first place. On the other side, Symphony X coming back this year was one of those "It's long overdue" moments. I also know that most headliners aren't directed at me. I'm less about the known quantities and tend to like the more oddball bands in the lineup.

Personally, I don't have a problem with people wanting Sabaton headlining, for example. Enough time has passed that having them back would still be pretty fresh.
