Triple Headliner Guess.

I was trying to stay out of this thread as much as possible, but that quote above is simply illogical. You want me to wait 6-10 years between bringing bands back that were popular at the show and are guaranteed to sell tickets???? There isn't a fucking festival in the world that plays by those rules.

I elevated Edguy to a headline after 2 years and no one complained. These days..everyone complains about everything.

I totally agree. Pagan's Mind and Circus Maximus are popular for a reason..they will sell tickets! Plus, I only started attending in 2010 so I've never seen CM live and I only saw PM once opening for Stratovarius, so would I be psyched to see either band next year?? Hell yeah!

I hope that in my post, I also didn't come across as saying that even though I didn't think they would be a headliner, that I would be disappointed if they were.

There are so many amazing acts I've seen in the past 4 years...if any of them were brought back, I'd be stoked to see them. Stoked. I really couldn't care less where they sit in the lineup, either.

The new bands are always extremely exciting to me though! I mean, look at this year! So many killer groups I hadn't heard of before.

Guys. In TWO DAYS I'll be in Atlanta. Huzzah!

Circus Maximus and Pagan's Mind always struck me a fan/fest favorites. I don't think they'd have much impact on ticket sales, but they'd please most of the regulars quite a bit (myself included).

As for returning acts, I say bring 'em on. Voyager and Leprous especially, but a returning Royal Hunt with DC Cooper on vocals would be amazing.

Since I was the first guess on the beginning of this thread that Glenn replied to, I'll chime in with....it doesn't really matter, we'll know in a few short days. I'm very excited. This year is a hell of a line up. Every year has been an amazing line up. I am eager to see what Glenn has in store for us. The Gamma/Hello/Uni was just a fantasy but somewhat educated guess since they are touring next year. I was lucky enough to see the Gamma/Hello tour with 50 of my friends outside of Santa Fe when they came through. But Avantasia has a new album coming in '13...and I don't see anyone seriously making them as a guess. I would personally love to see any Tobias form. I've also never seen the mountain king live, so any form of Sava would make me ecstatic. And Pagan's Mind has my number one cd of 2011, so I'd be stoked to see them come back too. I'm pretty easy, basically. :) All I can think of right now is...two more nights at home then I'm the A.T.L.!!!!!

My understanding is that Avantasia is not possible for financial reasons.

Oh jeez, I wonder why nobody is making them a serious guess... Perhaps because them alone cost more than the rest of the roster?

Believe me, I'd love to see that as well...

I hope you don't take my statement that prompted his response as a complaint about the festival in general. You make a roster, I'll come to the show, case closed. You book ALL bands who have played before (and blew the roof off the place), I'll come to the show, case closed. Hell, I know that this festival is likely the only way I'll see any of these bands ever again, if it's at all possible. I mean, is Haken gonna go on tour in the US? Probably not, unless they can get on with Dream Theater or something. Same with bigger PPUSA-friendly bands like Pagan's Mind, CircMax, or even Pain of Salvation. These bands just wouldn't make money touring the States on their own merits. We know that.

Regardless, the heart of my statements really hit with -- I'm cool with just about anything we get here, but if there are some headliner quality new blood bands, I'm way open to that too! Hell, if Manowar were a real possibility, I'd be ALL ABOUT THAT SHIT!

Not entirely on topic, but I've had the thought recently that maybe the self-imposed 2 years between repeat bands with the dwindling number of good bands in the genre is doing more harm than good at this point; maybe next year is when it comes to an end. I don't think the triple headliners will end up being related projects like a lot of people seem to.

Two thoughts:
1) People would bitch about too many repeat bands, getting sick of seeing the same band every other year, and it would end up hurting draw. People will always find something to bitch about, but the novelty of seeing new bands is an important draw to get some people to travel.

2) There's not a dwindling number of good bands in the genre, far from it I'd say - there's just a dwindling number of headliners that are going to make people's jaws drop. If anything, I'd say he has more options than ever for the lower slots - there are a ton of younger bands putting out awesome material. It's at the top of the card where he runs into the issues of bands being too expensive, touring too often (and therefore hurting their ability to get people to travel for them), or any other number of reasons.

If Glenn decided to keep the fest going another 5 to 10 years - and this is hypothetical, he has been very honest about the health and longevity of PPUSA - it's entirely possible that he could have a new class of headlining bands on his hands. But then he'd likely run into the same problems of them touring, growing too big, etc. It's sad to say, but the best scenario for Glenn would be for touring in America to continue going down the shitter, allowing him to have more exclusivity with high tier bands.

Circus Maximus and Pagans Mind would be fine by me, both of their recent releases were outstanding! As far as a third, Masterplan, Axel Rudi Pell or Within Temptation would be awesome. There are soo many bands that haven't come to progpower that I would love to see(Falconer, Cloudscape, Inner Wish, Myrath, Orden Ogan to name a few), seems that hoping for a band that I've seen several times to return even as a headliner is counter productive(to me). Who ever the bands are, I'm just hoping for a sell-out next year so Glenn will want to keep this Metal train rolling.
See you peeps in a few days! B-)

My post was more about the bands that don't tour that are fan-favorites at the festival.

I'll go with the three that I have already said: Evergrey, Shadow Gallery and Luca Turilli's Rhapsody. I have a feeling that next PPUSA will be its last. If it is, Glenn will go out with a bang.
