not really a fan of theres but i quite like the guitar tone on the crusade

i know it's not a sneap cd but does anyone have any idea what amp they used (or colin, if the gtrs were reamped)? i'm guessing they were using a dimebucker pickup. had a quick search earlier but had no luck

ta

yeh he does. he messaged me a couple of times on myspace askin who mixed my bands cd
....although looking back, that cd sounds like ass so maybe his ears aint so great haha. just kiddin, i've heard some of his own stuff and it's tone city.

anyways, before this thread gets rightfully discarded, are u sure colin didn't reamp anything? not that it sounds like he'd have needed to

Thanks yeah thats exactly right on the rhythm tone! I dont have time to search or list em again but the details about all the tones from the other post but its around, shouldnt be hard to find.

Glad you dig it man! wait til you guys hear this devildriver we are mixing and the sanctity we just finished (colin mix)...good times!

Hello,
Let me dig this one out of its grave.

I have a question about Trivium Ascendancy sound.
As far as I know they used Peavey 5150/6505, and also they used overdrive pedals maxon od808 and mxr gt-od.

Amp settings are all over the internet, alright. But what about overdrive pedal settings? I just bought my first overdrive pedal, and I want to use it as a booster for red channel of my tube amp, but I have totally no idea what settings of that pedal I should use. If you use TS808/maxon od808/mxr gt-od/other similar pedal as a booster for red channel of your amp, let me know what settings you use.
Thank you.

I have a ts-9 and I generally set the dials to 9 12 and 3 for drive, tone and level respectively, maybe push the tone up a bit more... play through it on your clean channel and listen to what it does to the tone..
Good luck, gravedigger. Welcome to the forum! :D 8==D - -

Ascendandy has a somewhat tight tone so for that effect I'd start with 0 overdrive, balance and tone knobs turned completely to the right. Then twerk from there.

All on noon is my guess.

If you ever used TSE x50 (which I had been using until bought a tube amp), its overdrive pedal TSE808 has default settings: gain - 0, volume -noon, and tone - noon. I just compared my mxr gt-od with TSE808 with these settings, and it sounds pretty much the same to me. So I guess its gonna be my reference point. I think pedal gain set to zero is fine, cuz amp gain is already set to 10.

Anyway, all other opinions are welcomed. I will try them all.
I'm gonna make a cover to Trivium Rain after I'll find the correct sound. I already have a nice drum+bass track I've been making last few weeks. I'm a huge fan, so it's gonna have to be a good cover.

Amp gain set to 10? Oh dear...
Yeah, man. It's a tough world :headbang:
Mr Van Halen feels sick every time they abuse his wonderful amp :ill:
And seriously, I am sure they set gain to 10. First of all Heafy himself told a few times they set gain to 10, and second, I tried a few gain amounts, and I get the closest sound with gain = 10.

IIRC Andy reamped the DIs he received. They didn't use the pickups he suggested, therefore he used a plugin to EQ the signal and then reamped. Pretty sure heafy meant 10 o'clock when he said gain at ten. Anyway, he's known for his lying skills when it comes to the production of his albums.

Funny how OP is Josh from Sylosis looking for information about a guitar tone he far surpassed a year later and in the years to come.
