I've always thrown old/used tubes in my 5150 since I've owned it. Thinking about retubing it. Doug's Tubes throws me a listing but the preamp tubes seem a bit "cheap", IMO.
When I ordered my Mark IV tubes from him (which, apparently, that tube kit has been eradicated from his site), I got the badass tone kit with Tung Sol, JJ's, Sovtek, etc. Haven't tried many types of tubes in my life so I'm a bit skeptical.
Plus, I'm not so certain I need high gain preamp tubes in the thing.
I'm also trying to get the cleanest cleans out of the thing as possible while retaining a crushing main rhythm tone, which may not be remotely possible.
Suggestions?
