Got the Terrorizer newsletter today, and there's a bit about the album in it:
AMON AMARTH ALBUM PREVIEW: "This is sexy music."
This week British music hacks gathered in the heart of London to
raise a glass of ale in honour of visiting Viking horde Amon Amarth
and get a first listen to their brand new albums ‘Twilight Of The
Thunder God’. Intern Daniel Heronneau was dragged along to meet his
heroes.
When I started my work experience at Terrorizer, the last place I
expected to find myself was in the basement of a bar in Soho,
listening to the new Amon Amarth album, and hanging out with the
Vikings themselves.
The first thing that I noticed about the Amon Amarth guys was how
approachable and friendly they were, as soon as they entered the room,
they took the time to shake everyone's hand, and after getting a drink
(of course) they sat down to chat about ordinary things, like beer,
and karaoke.
The second thing I noticed about the band was how huge their
frontman, Johan Hegg is in real life. I mean, when you watch the
videos of the band on YouTube and see pictures of them in magazines,
he looks “pretty big. But face-to-face he was eclipsing.
On the subject of the new album, it was very good, and despite the
shoddy speaker system in the pub, you could tell that they had put a
lot of effort into it. The thing with the new album ('Twilight Of The
Thundergod') is that it shows not how the band have reinvented their
sound, but have progressed in both heaviness and technicality.
This is what I overheard in the Terrorizer camp (next to the bar,
drowning in pear cider):
"This is sexy music. It makes me want to gallop off to a far away
field with my trusty steed and a rebellious village boy. In all
seriousness though this is a slice of Swedish death that could give
the Big Four a run for their money."
Louise Brown (Assistant Editor)
"This is the greatest service to Swedish death metal since Jon
Nödtveidt died."
James Hoare (News Editor)
‘It’s not damn loud enough, however it lends itself well to
violent murders."
Jonathan Horsley (Resident Scot)
So it looks like it's gonna be a good album
(I knew that anyway
)
